Friendship Force announces 2003 schedule
President Nancy Davis announces the regular
bimonthly meeting schedule of the Big
Canoe/North Georgia Friendship Force Club for
the 2003 year. The meetings are scheduled for
Sunday afternoons beginning with Jan. 26. That
will be followed bimonthly by March 16, May
18, July 20, Sept. 21 and Nov. 16 to round out
the year.
All meetings will be at Jasper Family Steak-
house at the corner of Burnt Mountain Road and

Last week at the Capitol, Governor Perdue was presented with a marble nameplate made by the
Georgia Marble Company in Tate.
The 40 pound white marble nameplate is finished in gold leaf. In partnership with Georgia Mar
ble, Dennis Burnette, center, began the official nameplate program for the governor in 1982.

services to people with disabilities.
The meeting will be conducted via
satellite teleconference on Wednes
day, Feb. 26 from 3-4 p.m.
The teleconference will originate
from the studios of Georgia Public
Television (GPTV) in Atlanta. The
public will be able to participate
from several viewing sites within
the 12 regional office areas of the
VR program. The format will allow
the audience to hear comments from
people all across the state.
The department noted that people
with disabilities, advocates for their
cause, employers, community part
ners and others who are interested
are encouraged to participate. Their
input will be valuable in making
plans to better serve people with
disabilities.
Through its VR program, the
labor department is the principal
agency charged with the responsibil
ity of providing people with disabil
ities with assessments, rehabilitation
and assistance, and then moving
them into the workforce. The VR
program’s state plan must be
reviewed and updated annually in
compliance with the Rehabilitation
Act which is now Title IV of the
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of
1998 and is slotted for reauthoriza
tion this year.
