Gabe Wolf’s cowboy mystique
on display at Sharptop Arts Gallery
By Linda Barnes

The Sharptop Arts Gallery is
always changing. It can feel that
you are looking through a kalei
doscope. It seems that with every
turn you see and experience
something different. In addition
to the Gallery Art shows, the
building houses art provided by
a host of artists. This week I
would like to introduce you to
Gabe Wolf. He is dedicated to
capturing the cowboy mystique.
For more than a decade, pho
tographer Gabe Wolf has lived a
vicarious cowboy existence, cap
turing images of man and horse
at work - in the rodeo arena, on
the ranch and in the community
of his family and friends as they
live the real cowboy life.
Legendary ranches have been
immortalized in movies and tel
evision, beautifying a way of life
that offers only a glamorized per
spective of the life of a rancher.
Dangerous and unforgiving, the
true life of a cowboy is altogether
different and it is these candid
images that Gabe pursues.
Documenting some of the
world’s finest rodeo athletes
while they perform in arenas
across the nation, Gabe has be
come one of the most sought
after action photographers by
cowboys who take their work
and weekend rodeo recreation
seriously.
Ranch call photo opportuni
ties are the fringe benefits of
working the rodeos to Gabe. The
beautiful landscapes, fantastic fa
cilities, dedicated ranchers,
skilled cowboys and amazingly
trained horses provide a set and
cast that no Hollywood producer
can match. But as magical as an
evening sky might be, a cowboy
knows what may lie behind that
breathtaking sunset or sunrise.
They can smell the smoke of a
range fire hundreds of miles be
fore it nears their land. Drought
and coyotes that threaten the
ranch, the rattle snake that
doesn’t offer much warning are
familiar foes in the cowboy
world.
Gabe seeks to document the
realism of the cowboy life - grit,
spit and dogged determination.
With his own special brand of
photography, Gabe brings the
true life of a cowboy home, in all
its raw beauty. New work and
soon to be archived images are
on display and for sale at Sharp-
top Arts Center.
In addition to Gabe’s wonder
ful photography, the Bent Tree
Shutterbugs gallery show is free
for viewing through this coming
Sunday. Take a little bit of time
to visit the gallery, enjoy the art
and visit the world around you
through these outstanding pho
tos.

Freedom Ride passes through
Jasper en-route to New York
Damon Howell / Photo
Day one of the 1,035 mile “Freedom Ride” from Atlanta to New York was slated to end in
Ellijay, after 95 miles on the bike. The route went directly through downtown Jasper and
Talking Rock Friday with temperatures well above 90 degrees.
Among the riders are local business owner Jon Hudgens, the Art of Hair, (seen in front
far right) and Mike Palmeri, who was a co-creator of the tribute for 9/11. Palmeri owns
Cartecay Bikes in Ellijay. The event began as an idea for Palmeri and one other fireman to
make the ride in time to be in New York to commemorate the 9/11 attacks.
