When a Floridian comes to
Georgia to catch a fish, that’s
news. Rev. Paul R. Horton, of St.
Petersburg, caught this 8 pound
largemouth black bass in Lake
Sequoyah, Tate Mountain Estates
recently. It measured 26 inches
and is said to be one of the
largest fish ever taken from this
lake. Rev. Horton was using a
small live bream for bait. Photo

Prof. Robinson to enter Naval
Reserve Corps October 18th
Prof. Ropert Robinson, of last
year’s faculty of Pickens County
High School, has entered the of
ficers naval reserve corps and
will report to Northwestern Uni
versity, Chicago, on October
18th for training.
Prof. Robinson was offered a
position on this year’s faculty but
did not accept. He remained in
Jasper during the summer, but
left Tuesday night for Mount
Vernon, Ga., where he will visit
his parents before reporting for
training.
Prof. Robinson is a splendid
young fellow and we believe will
make a good officer.

Cotton’s best chance for re
stored markets is to increase its
use by the people of our own
country. There was never a better
time than now to do this. With
Japanese silk banned from our
shores, our manufacturers are
finding a splendid substitute in
cotton for the making of snappy
hose. Now if the women of this
country will adopt cotton hose as
the substitute for silk a tremen
dous market will be created for
the chief product of southern
farms.

The railroad trainmen have set
next Monday as the date of a pro
posed strike. Under laws regulat
ing railroad labor disputes there
must be a cooling off period and
the strike will probably be post
poned. A railroad strike anytime
in the near future would paralyze
business and the national defense
program. If the various railroad
brotherhoods do strike it will be
such a blow to their prestige that
any advantage they gain will be
temporary and in the future they
will face a hostile public opinion.
