A new year and a new beginning

Pickens County Tea Party
As we approach January
20th and the inauguration of
Donald J. Trump as our 45th
U.S. President, there are
many new opportunities for
conservatives to participate
in the political process, all at
the local, state and national
level.
Locally, it is important
that concerned citizens attend
their county commissioner's
meetings and their county
school board meetings.
Those that do these necessary
chores are encouraged to
share their impressions with
other Pickens County resi
dents, so that they, too, can
benefit from the additional
input on local issues. It is also
important that we keep up
with the progress of Pickens
Seniors For Change, in their
efforts to bring about a prop
erty tax exemption for Pick
ens County seniors that is
reasonable and beneficial to
our Seniors, and yet does not
significantly impact the
county tax digest.
As for our local Tea Party,
it is extremely important that
all members attend our 4th
Tuesday monthly meetings,
meet and greet your Tea
Party neighbors, and partici
pate in the timely programs
presented by our invited
guest speakers. For our Janu
ary 24th meeting we will
have a three-person panel of
speakers who will bring us a
very informative program on
the Georgia Republican As
sembly. See
http://www.georgiara.com/
for more about the GRA; and
be sure to be present at our
January meeting to hear more
on the GRA from Debbie and
Jack Staver and Harry
Abrams.
Debbie Staver is a Pedi
atric Nurse and a concerned
citizen. She is the chair of
Restore and Preserve the
Constitution/The Key is We.
She founded Traffic Truth, a
group that led a successful
statewide battle against the T-
SPLOST in 2012. She is a
board member for Northwest
GA 9/12 group. Debbie has
been actively involved in at
tempting to hold our Govern
ment accountable by
participating in various
events in Atlanta and Wash
Debbie Staver
ington D.C. since 2009, in
cluding the first rally with
Docs 4 Patient Care in Wash
ington D.C. She has been a
Republican since she was
able to vote and currently
serves as secretary for the
Cherokee County Republican
Party. She has also worked
on numerous political cam
paigns. Debbie believes it is
our citizen duty to reject a
government that is overstep
ping its bounds and not fol
lowing the Constitution.
Jack Staver is a small
business owner and involved
citizen. Jack is the chair of
the Northwest GA 9/12 proj
ect, and one of the National
Directors of the Georgia Re
publican Assemblies. He has
worked as an activist at
tempting to reign in an out-
of-control government at all
levels since 2009 including
planning and speaking for
various statewide events, TV
and radio and participating in
several national events. Jack
is a lifelong Republican who
has always believed the gov
ernment is “We the People”
and diligently works at re
minding our government of
that.
Harry Abrams is a retired
manufacturer’s representa
tive of electronic design com
ponents. He is a long-time
Republican and likes to note
that his great-grandfather
voted for Abraham Lincoln.
Harry was president of
Teenage Republicans while
in high school in Florida and
has worked on multiple cam
paigns in Florida, including
election of Claude Kirk as 1 st
Republican governor since
Reconstruction. He currently
participates in many func
tions of the Cherokee County
Republican Party; and knows
the difference between a
Democracy and a Republic.
Harry believes in the princi
ples that citizens look for se
curity in their own person,
their families, jobs, and lib
erty; and believes that in
volvement begins at the local
level, that character leaves
fingerprints, and that an une
ducated population is the
greatest threat to our nation.
As a follow up to our January
meeting, be sure to attend our
Tuesday April 25 meeting to
meet Alex Johnson, president
of the Georgia Republican
Assembly; and the most-
likely winnable candidate for
the next GA GOP state chair
manship.
On the state level, the cur
rent GA General Assembly
convenes on Monday, Jan.
9th. Tony West, Grassroots
Director of Americans For
Prosperity Georgia, will be
our guest at our January 12th
Round Table Luncheon in the
Patio Room at Johnny's Pizza
in Jasper. Tony will update us
on activities at the Georgia
Dome and AFP events for
your participation. You are
greatly encouraged to attend
the January luncheon-enjoy
good food and discuss state
issues and proposed legisla
tion with Tony.
