New Jasper watertank necessary to
Y F A R S keep up growth
1 ^ ^ City officials say growth in the
area made the new water tank near
Philadelphia Church an absolute ne
cessity and at least two more tanks
will be needed soon.
The 100,000 tank will supplement the system and in
crease pressure in water lines in this area by 10 pounds,
which will mean the difference in having water or not,
Mayor John Weaver said.
Currently, water customers in the area are plagued with
low pressure and occasional water outages.

18 candidates qualify for county of
fices
The deadline to qualify as a
candidate for county offices passed
last Wednesday with more than one
candidate seeking each office except
County School Superintendent, Coro-
Pickens County is unique in that most candidates seek
county offices as independent candidates instead of by
party nomination.
Independent candidates do not run in the primary but in
the General Election in November.
One less rattler!!!
This is the time of year
when one has to watch his
step when strolling through
the mountains around Pickens
County. The venomous rattles
is on the prowl and one bite
from a rattles like the one
shown in the photo could be
hazardous.
Larry Coleman killed this
huge snake while he was
working Monday morning. It
was 4.5 feet long and had 11
rattles.
If you must take strolls
through the woods or other
areas with dense undergrowth
make sure you’re putting your
foot on the ground and not a
snake.

/ New Grand View lake now full of
vr Tji a ta n water
* -f-' tS. 4V o The new Grand View lake is
now full of water with the over-flow
going through the spillway.
The lake, covering about one
hundred acres of land, located four
miles east of Jasper, was built by the Grand View Lake Cor
poration, which is made up mostly of local citizens. It was
not built with the expectation of profit for the stockholders,
but for the purpose of furnishing a convenient place of
recreation and fishing. It has about three miles of shoreline
and lots have been surveyed fronting the water and they are
now available for purchase by the public. Roadways have
been cleared and it is hoped to soon have roads graded
making all lots accessible.
The lake is being stocked with fish and 35,000 have al
ready been secured. More will be added as fast as they can
be obtained.
