The Purpose of
“Sabbath ” at Holy
Family
On Sunday, August 21 at
8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. the
Rev. George Yandell will
preach on the purpose of
‘sabbath’ in today’s world?
Why did the synagogue
leader become indignant at
Jesus’ healing the bent
woman who couldn’t stand
up straight? (Luke 13: 10 -
17) The message Jesus spoke
to her after her healing sums
it up: “Woman you are set
free.” Hypocrites beware.
George Yandell was called
by the vestry in July 2012 as
Rector having served as
Priest-in-Charge at Holy
Family since August 1, 2010.
He came from Calvary Epis
copal Church in Memphis,
Tennessee where he served as
Senior Associate to the Rec
tor for eight years. Ordained
for 43 years, George has
served churches in Georgia,
Tennessee, Arkansas, and
Texas.
The Episcopal Church of
the Holy Family is located in
Jasper off of Cove Road at
100 Griffith Road. Sunday
services are 8 a.m. and 10:30
a.m. with Sunday School at
9:15 AM. For more informa
tion, please visit the website
at holyfamilyepisco-
palchurch.net or call the
parish office at 770-893-

Now we have found a
shortcut. It is not a full
sermon but a meditation
and we have cut the orig
inal 10 down to two.
Shorter is better unless
you are talking to Jesus.
Mark’s Gospel is the
shortest and was written
especially to the Jews
teaching that Jesus of
Nazareth was the prom
ised Messiah. However,
many did not recognize
him face to face.
The above Scripture
originally comes from
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and is

You Shall Not
Pass This
Way Again
7 shall pass through this world but
once. Any good therefore that / can do
or any kindness that I can show to any
human being, let me do it now. Let me
not defer or neglect it, for I shall not
pass this way again. ”
—Stephen Grellet
T he French-born Quaker Stephen Grellet came to the United States in 1795
after escaping execution during the French Revolution, since he was a
member of the King’s guard. Though he was raised Catholic, he was
deeply moved by the writings of William Penn, George Fox and other Quakers,
and in 1796 he joined the Society of Friends, the official name of the Quakers.
The Society of Friends believe that every human being has experiential access
to “the small light within” them, i.e., that God is within every human being.
They also place emphasis on the “priesthood of all believers,” a doctrine found
in the first epistle of Peter (1 Peter 2:9). After joining the Society of Friends,
Grellet devoted himself to missionary and charitable work and was granted
meetings with many rulers and dignitaries. By all accounts he led an exemplary
life, encouraging charitable work and reforms in education, prisons and
hospitals. Fie spoke out against what he saw as the evils of his age, such as
slavery, and was a man of faith who put his faith into constructive action.
Reflect on how you might do more to serve your fellow man and then put your
plan into action. - Christopher Simon
