Mason named Career Woman of the Year
April Mason (right) has been named Career Woman of
the Year by the Barnesville Rotary Club. Mason, who is the
principal of an accounting firm, is active in the community, her
church First Baptist and youth sports, among other activities.
She is pictured with Rotary president Linda Olivier.
Rotary announced the honor as there are currently no firm
plans for an awards banquet for 2021.
Doing the prom up right
This young couple wowed their schoolmates when they
arrived at the high school prom in a helicopter Saturday night.
Josh Driver and E’mari World made their entrance in a Robin
son R44 chopper that dropped them off at the practice field
near the school.

Hay trailer fire
Lamar County firefighters dealt with a smoky mess Friday when a large trailer loaded with hay caught fire on Veterans Park
way near its intersection with Silver Dollar Road. Smoke was thick in the area for some time as they battled the stubborn blaze.
The truck pulling the trailer suffered only minor damage.

well that “I thought I was
struggling just to get to
graduation.” Saffron also
agrees that many things
going on now “just don’t
make sense - like the
required training length
for massage therapists
is longer than most
police training.” Both of
Saffron’s parents, Brian
and April Abreu, are
pharmacists, and she has
enjoyed working with
them sometimes, “just
counting pills.”
The Abreu family is
working on developing
a wedding and event
venue on their property.
Saffron too has a long list
of achievements in high
school and earlier, and
will be a sophomore at
Gordon in the fall. Her ac
complishments include
singing with the Honor
Choir, placing in literary
competitions, winning
the Rotary Laws of Life
essay contest, and being
on the Academic Team
since eighth grade.
Both had high praise
for those who helped
along the way: parents
and families, teachers,
coaches, counselors
and other persons in the
community. Each unique
young woman has made
contributions toward the
high standings of their
high school, and this is
only the beginning.
