Deputies seize weed
and $137,588 in cash
WALTER GEIGER

A traffic stop on 1-75
Nov. 22 led to the seizure
of a large amount of cash,
53 pounds of marijuana
and a 2017 Ford F-350
pickup truck.
Sgt. Michael Brayton
was patrolling the inter
state when he spotted
the truck following an
other vehicle too closely.
The truck also made an
unsafe lane change and
Brayton stopped it.
The driver of the vehi
cle was Blanca Azuciena
Saucedo Cifuentes. The
only passenger was Elvin
Oseas Cifuentes. They
had home addresses in
Eureka, California.
As he approached the
truck, Brayton detected
a strong odor of mari
juana. A probable cause
search was done. In the
rear floorboard, a box full
of cash was found. More
cash was found in the
driver’s purse, glove box,
center console and the
passenger’s luggage.
The total amount of
cash which was confis
cated was $137,588.
Under questioning,
the driver admitted there
was marijuana in the
truck. A bag of weed was
found under the front
passenger seat.
In the bed of the truck,
deputies found 53 one-
pound vacuum-sealed
packages of marijuana
hidden under a tarp.
Elvin Cifuentes re
mains in jail on charges
of trafficking in mari
juana and possession of
a Schedule 1 controlled
substance after bond
was denied at an initial
hearing.

choruses as well as
student choral perfor
mances. Will has a sister,
Grace, who is a fresh
man at St. George’s. His
next musical venture, he
said, will be “building a
ukulele, which 1 will learn
to play.”
He is enrolled in a
calculus BC course (two
semesters) at Georgia
Tech but has not made
a decision about which
college after high school.
Math is his favorite sub
ject, hence the choice of
Patricia Hill as his STAR
teacher. He hopes to go
into aerospace engineer
ing and become a private
pilot also. Will challenges
Mrs. Hill sometimes, she
said, with “math ques
tions he wants answers
to, and 1 have to find
ways to find those an
swers with him.”
Will said his most
heartbreaking moment in
high school was “playing
the last soccer game.” It
was a state champion
ship game, and SGES
lost. He said, “It was just
knowing it was my last
game and wondering
how the younger guys
would do after I’m out.”
Hill, a 30-year veteran
teacher, said the “heart
break” experience was
part of Will’s personality:
“He is always helping stu
dents. It’s not unusual to
find him in the middle of
a bunch of kids who are
listening to and learning
from him. He really cares
about how they are doing
and has been a big influ
ence on them. Overall,
he has high morals, he’s
ethical and always works
hard. Writing positively
about Will to colleges is
no problem at all.”
Rock Springs had not
announced their STAR’S
as of press time.
