Trojans sweep Cats, roll into Sweet 16
WALTER GEIGER
news@barnesville.com
The Lamar County
Trojans swept Early
County in the first round
of the GHSA Class AA
state baseball playoffs
Friday, taking both games
of a doubleheader played
at Aldora Field.
The #9 Trojans (23-5)
travel to Hogansville to
take on the #6 Callaway
Cavaliers (22-6) in the
Sweet 16 round Wednes
day. A doubleheader
is set for 4:30 p.m. The
‘if’ game will be played
Thursday at 5 p.m. on
the road.
“This series will be
about our offense versus
their defense. They have
allowed only 58 runs
in 28 games. We have
scored 271 runs in the
same amount of games,”
Trojan head coach Mike
Oberg said.
In game one Friday,
the Trojans trailed the
Bobcats 54 but plated
four runs in the bot
tom of the sixth to seal
the win. Cameron King
started the game but Will
Walters got the win in
relief.
Brayden Pines and Do-
navan Sanford had two
hits for LC while Hutson
Traylor and Rhett Blount
each drove in three runs.
In game two, LC rolled
to a 16-3 win. Nathaniel
Tidwell got the win for
Lamar, going five innings
and striking out five.
Walters got the save.
Traylor had three hits
and five rbis to lead the
Trojan attack. Tidwell
and Kale Bryan had two
hits each. Pines and San
ford added one rbi each.
Oberg is happy his de
fense is coming around.
“We had 19 outs via
groundouts without com
mitting an error over the
two games. It was, by far,
our best defensive per
formance of the season,”
he said.
In round one, the Tro
jans blasted four doubles
and three triples.
“We have hit 56
doubles, six triples and
nine home runs this sea
son. Friday was a break
out day for sophomore
Hutson Traylor. In two
games, he had four hits
and eight rbis. We hope
that continues,” Oberg
concluded.
