Rendtion of the large warehouse operation that was approved by commissioners Sept. 20.
County okays large warehousing operation
WALTER GEIGER
news@barnesville.com
After a public hear
ing in which no negative
comments were present
ed, the Lamar County
commission voted unani
mously Sept. 20 to ap
prove a large warehouse
and distribution opera
tion in northeast Lamar
County. The 203.82 acres
site borders Buck Creek
along with 1-75 and High
Falls and Turner roads.
HFG Development
sought and received a
change in zoning from
A-R (agricultural-residen
tial) to M-2 (manufactur
ing). The developer plans
to erect three buildings
totaling nearly 1.5 million
square feet.
Multiple restrictions
were placed on the zon
ing change. Buffers will
be required along the
creek and trucks must
enter from Van Mar Park
way. No truck parking
will be allowed on High
Falls or Turner roads.
Barry Turner, one of
the property owners,
said he had been living
on the property since he
was born in 1943.
???I plan to stay there.
I will be the closest
neighbor. Maybe the
warehouses will block
some of the noise from
1-75. This is the only way
we can benefit from this
land. Through the years,
we have been denied two
(billboards) and two cell
towers. All we???ve been
allowed to do with our
property is pay taxes on
it,??? Turner said.
Newton Galloway,
attorney for the develop
ers, noted the plan had
been reviewed by Three
Rivers RDC due to the
creek border and ap
proved.
