UNDER THE AUSPICES OF
THE K. OP P.IiODGE.
The Page Concert Company will
give an entertainment at the
opera house next Wednesday eve
ning, March 18th, under the
auspices of Knights of Pythias.
This company is composed of
four members who are all artists in
their lines of work, and for play
ing,' singing, dancing, reciting,
etc., can hardly be excelled.
They come highly recommended
by the press and people and the
public may expect something good
from them.
The reserved seats will cost 50
cents: general admission 35 cents
and the gallery 25 cents.
Be sure to see them and enjoy
an excellent evening’s entertain
ment.
Will be a Pleasant Event.
About the 10th of April Mr.
Robert Hugh Morris will appear
here in one of his recitals under
the auspices of the Ladies Aid So
ciety of the Presbyterian church.
The ladies have arranged with
Mr. Morris to give one of his re
citals, which‘news will be hailed
with pleasure by the people of
this city. His recital given re
cently for the K. of P’s. was a
great treat to the people of Bar
nesville. The exact nature of the
program has not yet been deter
mined, but will be annouced later
and it will be a good one.
It will be a matter of informa
tion to the many friends of Mr.
Morris to know that his recitals
will probably be under the
management of the Alkahest
Lyceum Bureau in a short time,
as that concern is making an
effort to secure his services. It is
gratifying to his admirers to learn
that his remarkable talents and
merit in this line have been shown
such a mark of appreciation.
Entertained Friends.
Miss Jackie Carswell entertain
ed some of her friends at a party
given at her home on Forsyth
street last Monday night.
The occasion was one of great
pleasure to all who were fortunate
enough to be present. Various
amusements were indulged in for
several hours, after which a de
lightful course of refreshments
was served. The affair passed off
very happily and was one of keen
enjoyment to her friends, who pro
nounced her a pleasant hostess.

Holiness Association.
The Middle Georgia Holiness As
sociation was in session here three
days last week, closing Sunday
night. Quite a number of visiting
delegates were present to attend
the meeting from various points
in this section of the state, and it
was an exceedingly pleasant oc
casion.
The Association adjourned Sun
day night to meat next session in
Columbus.
Hand Mashed.
Mr. Felton Blackman,'a young
man who has been at work at the
Barnesville Planing Mill, had the
misfortune to get his left hand
terribly mashed in one of the
machines Monday morning.
By the accident he lost several
fingers from his left hand. The
wound was a very painful one,
and he was carried to Dr. Kemp’s
office where his hand was dressed.
He is getting along very well now
although his hand gives him great,
pain, and he is unfartunate in;
losing his fingers. I
Lecture Friday Evening.
Dr. F. C. McConnell, of Atlan
ta, who was to lecture in Barnes
vill last week, was unable to come,
but he will deliver the lecture at
the Baptist church here tomorrow
(Friday) evening at 7:80 o’clock.
The lecture will be free and it is
an opportunity that no body
should miss.
Bazaar Came to a
Close Friday Night.
Last Friday night was the
crowning success of the Bazaar,
which was held at the Blues’
Armory last week. The crowd
was the largest that attended the
entertainment any night. The
hall was filled to the limit with
pleasure seekers and bargain buy
ers.
A great quantity of the mer
chandise was auctioned off and
sold in other ways, so that the
evening was a fitting close of so
successful a week.
Ou the whole, the bazaar has
far exceeded the expectations of
the most sanguine, and the Metho
dists have reason to be proud of
the showing made.
We will not attempt to bestow
praise on each individual who
took part in the work, but we
feel that Mr. Chas. T. Tyler, who
was moat active in the affair, is
entitled to congratulations on the
success of the Bazaar. The ladies
are especially due the thanks of
all concerned for the way in which
they entered in to the work, and
without their help, the thing
would have come to nought.
We congratulate all coucerned
on the pronounced success of the
Bazaar.
Jackson-Smith.
Avery pretty home wedding
was that of Miss Ida Jackson, of
Meansville, and Mr. Ivey D.
Smith, of Barnesville, which took
place Sunday afternoon at 8:80
o’clock at the home of the bride’s
brother, Mr. J. T. Jackson, of
Meansville.
The ceremony was performed by
Rev. A. C. Smith, of Griffin, in
the presence of a large crowd of
friends and relatives who wish
for them much happiness.
The bride was gowned in blue
cloth trimmed in buttons and
white silk. The home was decor
ated in yellow and green. The
bride is one of Meansville’s sweet
est girls who possesses many
noble qualities and is highly es
teemed by all who know her.
The groom is a young man of
sterling qualities who has a host
of friends who will gladly welcome
his bride.
They left immediately after the
ceremony for Barnesville, the
home of the groom, where a bril
liant reception was a awaiting
them at the home of the groom’s
father.
At The Opera House.
Friday night, “Romeo and Jul
iet” will be seen at the op°ra
house.
The company presenting it is
said to be an unusually good one,
: and no doubt will please a fine
audience at their performance
here. The Anniston Star, at which
place they played last week, has,
the following to say of it:
“A more finished production of
Shakespeare’s immortal tragedy
of love and passion has not been
witnessed at the local theater in
many seasons, and the lovers of!
true dramatic art enjoyed it im
mensely.”
A CHILD KNOWS ITS FRIEND.
The children are eager for a dose of
of Cheney’s Expectorant whenever
they are threatened with a cold or
c.oup. I prefer Cheney's because it is
fo agreeable to take, and it’s results
are sooner seen than that of any other
preparation. Mas. L. D. Johnson.

“Afraid of Banks,”
*
A phrase we heard someone recently use. Well, are
you afraid to ride on the cars, just because there
have been wrecks on the rail-road ?
Are you afraid to buy something to eat, just
because someone has occasionally been cheated in
groceries ? ?
Are you afraid to bathe, just because a man was
once drowned in a bath tub ? ? ?
Are you afraid to breathe, just because there are
a few poisonous microbes in the air? ? ? ?
We trust you will see the point, if not, call to see
us and we will point it out.
