CALOMEL SALIVATES
EVEN WHEN CAREFUL
TREACHEROUS DRUG CAN NOT
BE TRUSTED AND NEXT DOSE
START TROUBLE
Calomel is dangerous. It may
salivate you and make you suffer
fearfully from soreness of (rums,
tenderness of jaws and teeth, swollen
tongue, and excessive saliva dribb
ling from the mouth. Don’t trust
calomel. It is mercury; quicksilver.
If you feel bilious, headachy, con
stipated and all knocked out, just
go to your druggist and get a bot
tle of Dodson’s Liver Tone for a
few cents which is a harmless vege
table substitute for dangerous calo
mel. Take a spoonful and if it
doesn’t start your liver and straight
en you up better and quicker than
nasty calomel and without making
you sick, you just go back and get
your money.
If you take calomel today you’ll
be sick and nauseated tomorrow; be
sides, it may salivate you, while if
you take Dodson’s Liver Tone you
will wake up feeling great. No salts
necessary. Give it to the children it
is perfectly harmless and can not
salivate.
Weeds are plants growing where
they are not desired, according to
botanists. There are no plants
which are weeds, since in nature each
plant has its name, its place and its
use.

TRIBUTE TO MR. CARTER
Mr. W. J. Carter of Fincher com
munity, near Meansville, died July
23rd, after an illness of several
weeks, resulting from blood clot on
the brain.
Mr. Carter was fifty-one years of
age and was one of the best citizens
of the county. He stood steadfastly
for all of those principles that tend
to the upbuilding of community,
county and state, and was ever ready
to bear his share of all the burdens
of life. He possessed a smooth,
cheerful, happy disposition and
found his greatest pleasure in ser
vice to others, loyal to his friends,
devoted to his family and true to his
God.
He leaves a heart-broken widow
and eight sorrowing orphans whom
we cannot comfort now, but some
day they will see the wisdom of this
providence of God and be comforted
by Him. U. L. T.

THE PARABLE OF THE
ROBIN AND THE WORM
Every Spring do I dig in the Gar
den. And so did my fathers, back
to Adam; but he got to flirting with
Eve and loafing on the job, and was
fired. But when I digg, Keturah is
with me, and I loaf not.
Now as I digged, behold there
came a Robin that liveth hard by, and
he followed me as I digged And ha
pulled out now and again a fat
Worm.
And he came not too nigh unto me,
yet did he not shun me utterly nor
fear me greatly. And he looked at
me curiously and I think gratefully.
And this is what I think he said:
Behold, here is the owner of the
Garden, and he diggeth up this
ground for my sake, so that I eat
Worms atid toil not.
And he knew not that I had other
plans for the Garden, and that the
Garden itself was a Side-Issue with
me; for he thought that I wrought
for his sake. And perchance he
blamed me, and wondered that on cer
tain mornings I slept, although he
perched in the Mulberry Tree outside
my window and prayed for me to
arise and dig for him that he might
eat Worms without toil.
Now he was more than welcome to
the Worms that I digged up; for one
Robin is of more value to me than
many worms. And he is welcome to
the opinion that I have nothing else
to do than to dig for him; and I can
not very well explain to him that he
is partiully in error.
But I considered as I digged how
like that Robin is to men and women;
and how his ideas of Providence are
about like theirs.
But this I admired in the Robin,
that however little he understood the
larger purposes of the owner of the
Garden, the Robin did not fail to
make use of such blessings as came
his way; and I think that in his small
way he was thankful; which is not
true of all men.
For I suppose that the Lord of
earth’s Garden hath much larger pur
poses than any that I ohn discover';
and what I am able bo get out of it
may be one of his minor purposes.
But 1 will remember gladly that even
the Robins and the Sparrows have
value in his sight, and I am also un
der his care.—Watchman-Examiner
of New York.

“DON’T HAFTA”
Is law violation a passing fad?
Let us hope.
Extremely dangerous in the pass
ing. ✓
Neither the war, nor prohibition,
nor radical legislation, nor lax
morals, nor automobiles are charg
able with responsibility for the un
precedented rebellion of human na
ture against all restraint.
To illustrate: A bunch of seven
year old boys, children of first school
grade, rushing to the street at the
close of the day’s session, voiced
what is in the public mind, in tho
very atmosphere—l hope not in the
soil. One boy yelled “I don’t hafta,”
and the echo came from the others
of the same age, “I don’t hafta,”
with the final exclamation from one
of them, evidently expressing the
mind of all of them, “I don’t hafta
do anything—but die.”*
The moonshiner retreating at the
approach of the revenuer or sheriff
moves on because he doesn’t “hafta”
stop. The rum runner hastily de
serting his car, being chased by the
officer, doesn’t “hafta” wait for the
officer. The highwayman slays and
robs his victim because he feels that
he doesn’t “hafta” earn a living in
an honest way, prefers to take it
from his brother more industrious and
more frugal. The lounge lizzard and
the parlor Bolshevik doesn’t “hafta”
engage in useful employment, pre
fers to be a de&d-beat, and finally a
thug.
The sorry lawyer defending these
outlaws doesn’t “hafta” conform to
any honorable rules of practice but
j secures release of his criminal client
by deception, sharp practice, perjury
procured and dishonesty.
The whole system has degenerated
and before we see the light of a bet
ter day must be fegenerated.
Every’ honest man who earns his
living through honest labor and ef
fort must learn that every one of
these di'ones, vagabonds and thugs
add to his burden. Every good cit
izen who respects the law and sup
ports the courts must understand
that every outlaw adds to the men
ace, the insecurity of his home, his
loved ones, his property and his life.
Until then we may not reasonably
expect a return of orderly condi
tions.
The press and pulpit must not let
up on the job.
Organized Christian citizenship
shall finally stand as our best protec
tion against organized outlawry and
crime
Sincerely,
