GREAT CIVITAN MEETING
IN REDBONE DISTRICT
One of the greatest meetings
which the Barnesville Civitan club
has held was the one at Ramah
church in Redbone district Thursday
evening last week, where the club
was the guest of the Redbone Wo
man’s club. There were about 150
people present and if there was one
present who did not thoroughly enjoy
the occasion that person did not let
it be known. On the other hand, the
greatest enthusiasm prevailed and
numbers of those in attendance said
the meeting was a huge success.
The meeting was held in the beau
tiful new Ramah church, which had
just been completed, and many re
marked on the splendid church which
had been erected and words of high
commendation were spoken for the
members of the church and the citi
zens of the community who had aided
in its erection. The members of the
Woman’s club served dinner for the
big crowd—and such a dinner as it
was—one of the most delicious ever
seen on such an occasion—well
■worth even Mike Jones’ trip up from
Macon just to partake of it. It was
splendidly prepared and beautifully
served by the women and young la
dies of the community. It was a
scene which the Civitans will not
soon forget and they are profoundly
grateful to the R'edbone Woman’s
club for the invitation to meet with
them.
The program, which vvas rather of
an impromptu nature, was interest
ing and helpful, everybody feeling
that it was well worth while to be
in such a place. There was plenty
of fun running through the meeting,
but there was much to appeal to the
mind and heart and to inspire one
to try to live the unselfish, useful
life.
There were beautiful vocal musi
cal numbers by Mrs. H. E. Armstrong
and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Prout, in
strumental selections by Mrs. Arthur
Jackson and there were fine, inspira
tional talks by Judge G. Ogden Per
sons, of Forsyth, Col. Frank Willing
ham, of Forsyth, Dr. J. A. Corry of
Barnesville, Mr. Malcolm Jones, Jr.,
of Macon, and Rev. Marvin Frank
lin of Barnesville, the latter being
the only one notified in advance that
he was expected to talk. He made
an exceptionally impressive and ap
propriate talk, advocating law ob
servance and law enforcement and
the tlfings which contribute thereto.
He was heartily applauded.
The proceeds from the dinner will
be used for the church and it is
gratifying to know that the net pro
ceeds amounted to more than SIOO.
The dinner and the entertainment
occupied about two and a half hours
and there was not a dull moment
during the time. It was voted a tre
mendous success from every stand
point.

ADVISES NEGROES
TO STAY IN LAMAR
Senator J. C. Collier last week re
ceived a letter from John Robinson,
who for many years was a respected
negro farmer living near Barnesville,
but who sold out and went to Cali
fornia. In this letter he advises the
negroes to stay here, rather than go
to some other section of the country.
The letter should cause the negroes
in Lamar county to realize that they
can do just as well, if not better,
here than elesewhere, and for that
reason we are publishing it below:
Los Angeles, Calif., Marchl, 1925.
Mr. J. C. Collier,
Barnesville, Ga.
Dear Friend: —
I will write you a few' lines to let
you know that we are all well and do
ing well. I hope this will find you
the same.
You tell my people to stay where
they are. They can do better there
than they can here. If they had
plenty of money this is a very nice
place to be. Tell my son, Ruben, to
stay where he i3 and not to sell his
farm. He can live cheaper there
than we can here.
JOHN ROBINSON.
THE PARABLE OF THE
SHAPE OF THE EARTH
I spake unto Keturah, saying I
have often wondered about the shape
of the Earth.
And Keturah said, They taught me
in the Geography that it was Round,
and I do not think that it hath
changed.
And I said, I do not feel too sure
about that, and it may be that they
have been fooling us. Let us go
around and see. And if we come
back again to the same place without
turning about, then we shall know.
So we began to prepare. But we
took thought and considered, and we
consulted such as be wise in Physick,
even £he Chirurgeons and Physicians
and they said. It were more prudent
if Keturah should remain on this side
of the water.
And I said, My dear, when the
Virtues were distributed, thou didst
receive thy full share, and became in
addition- Residuary Legatee, but one
grace thou lackest. For thou are not
a Good Sailor.
So we decided that I should go
alone. And it was rather a Solemn
Decision.
But on the day before we were to
have separated, Keturah said, I also
go with thee.
And I said, Then must we see the
Photographer, and have thy Picture
inserted in my Passport.
And she said, I have seen him, and
here are the Pictures.
And I said. Keturah, we have
taken eousel of our Faith rather than
our Fears, we will do this thing to
gether.
And sc we paid the fare thereof,
and we found a place in the Ship
where there was room for us, and
we said, The Lord do so to me and
more also if we see not this thing
through together. For we have been
together a long, long time, and by the
blessing of God we shall do this to
gether also.
And thus it is that we sail forth
on this new adventure, And if the
Earth be flat, we shall come unto the
end of it, and turn back; but if it
be round, then shall we keep on go
ing until we come back again.
And divers of our friends spake
unto us, saying, We hope that we
shall know of your journeyings, and
that there will be Parables that grow
out of them. And I have promised
them that if God will, it shall be so.
But what experiences shall come to
us, and what parables shall be made
out of, that I know not. But when
we come back again, we shall be able
to answer those who inquire of us,
and tell them whether we have found
the earth a place where one had to
turn about and come back, or wheth
er it be indeed as the Geographers
have declared unto us.
So we take the wings of the morn
ing, and dwell in the uttermost parts
of the sea, but we are not far from
the love of the good God who hath
guided us thus far, and we .ire to
gether.—New York Watchman-Ex
aminer.
