PROMPTLY RETURNFD
One day last Tuesday a ’gemen of
color strolled into the Ordinary’s of
fice and asked to buy some legal
documents whereby he could secure
a wife. Of course the Ordinary is
sued the necessary papers, after the
required notice of five days.
As is usual when such papers as
these are issued they are folded nice
ly and placed in one of the Ordinary’s
large envelopes with the usual form
in one corner—“ After 5 Days Return
To, etc.”
Now, it came to pass, in a few days
afterwards the applicant brought the
papers back, the certificate thereto
attached being blank, showing that
they had never been executed.
When asked why the execution had
not taken place, he replied that the
victim was sick and not able to stand
the ordeal.
He was told the papers were his
until he was legally sentenced to life
in the holy bonds of matrimony.
“But,” he continued, “it says on
the envelope return in five days to
the Ordinary.”

It will be of sincere interest to the

that in her report to the Executive

might have a place to leave their

the university. Mrs. Lawson also
gave out the good news that the
Mercer ministerial students had
taught 7000 in Eibb county alone to
read and write.
In the report of Miss Julia Allen,
Young People’s Secretary and Col
lege Correspondent, she let fall the
hint that plans are ripening for an
