Editor GxizttU:
I have l>eeiii‘ealiiijf with pleasure the
various articles contributed to the
Household department of the Gazette.
Your paper is doing much good
through these articles. If you could
work up an interesting agricultural de
partment on the same plan your paper
would be far more valuable to the far
mers who take it.
Just now there seems to be a turn in
the success of farm life in Georgia. It
is being demonstrated every year that
money can be made ou agriculture. It
is unnecessary to elaborate the advan
tages of the farm. Let every farmer
who has experimented in any particular
line give you in a plain, brief way his
methods and his results. This will be of
no mean advantage to all. Since the
war the tendency has been, especially
by the young men to leave the farm
and rush blindly into towns to find em
ployment for which a large number of
them are not fitted, consequently they
have not accomplished the good in the
world they might if they had not left
the farm. Boys raised on a farm know
more or less about it and know little if
anything about anything else. By in
dustry and economy any boy can soon
own a farm. Mr. Editor, you Lave ex
tended the invitation to us to give you
short articles, but the invitation has
not been accepted. Is r ow I know that
some fear they cannot write well
gnough to give you an article. I would
suggest that they send you their arti
cles in the best shape they can get them
over some signature as the ladies write
auu we will soon have a readable de
partment.
wßllil be more tlum pleased to
■P"P a successful agricultural depart-
Wieut and will do all in our power to
advance it. Give us your and if
I you desire any dressing up we will see
that they come out in proper shape.

All over Pennsylvania the temperan
ce people are alert, and have organiza
tions to influence the next Legislature
in favor of passing an amendment to
the Constitution, prohibiting forever
the mawifacture and sale of intoxicat
ing driTO in this .State. In many dis
tricts for Assembly have
b en aHed to define themselves on the
qucxliA, and before election day, it is
safe to say, every man who aspires to a
seat at Harrisburg will have ail* oppor
tunity of telling the people ho\\§he in
t ‘inis to vote on this matter if elected.
This will undoubtedly have its effect in
s lapiug the political complexion of the
u xt Legislator.*. The saloon-keepers
are also active, and they, too, will sup
port only such candidates lor Assembly
as will favor their interests and vote
against the constitutional amendment.
Indeed, this is now the only issue of im
p irtance, apart from the matter of ap
portionment, to come before the next
General Assembly of jPennsylvina, and
it is pryrH*to state that the light is be
tween and temper
ance men. The next Legislature dots*
not eleci a United States Senator, and
as the liquor-dealers have more confid.
once iu the Democratic than in the Ite
puaican candidates, and are spending
unffe money than the temperance peo
pie to influence the result it is altogeth
likely that the next Legislature of Petal
sylvania will be Democratic.
The Women’s Temperance Union of
Ohio has inaugurated anew movement
in that State. The Union lias its head
quarters in Cleveland tnd has 2bo mi
nor Unions, The officers are practical
clear headed women and its advisers and
contributors are among the wealthiest
and most intelligent men of the State.
This body grew eut of the great tem
perance crusade. The purpose of the
Union now is to ask the Legislature
this winter to submit to the people at
the next election an amendment to the
constitution absolutely prohibiting the
manufacture, importation and of
intoxicating liquors.
*Dr. S. B. Ruittan says: ”As a rule
physicians do not, by their professional
methodsbuild up the female constitution
while they seldom cure the diseases to
which it is always liable in our variable
climate and under our imperfect
zation. Special remedies are often re
quired to restore organic harmony and
strengthen the enfeebled of wo
manhood; and for most of these we We
indebted to persons outside the medical
profession. Among the very best of
these remedies I assign a prominent
place to Mrs. Lydia E. Pinkham’s Veg
etable Compound.
The custom of selling out railroads
from first hands does not seem to pre
vail in some of the Northern sections.
Last week the Nickel-plated Road
which grew out of the Lake Erie and
Western Road was sold at a profit of
812, 000,0< n>. There were about eight
persons interested in the road and
among whom this twelve million dol
lars are to be divided.
It-is impossible that a remedy made
of such common, simple plants as Hops
Ruchu, Mandrake, Dandelion, Ac.,
should make so many and such great
cures as Hop Bitters do; but when old
and young, rich and poor, pastor and
doctor, lawyer and editor, all testify to
having been cured by them, you must
believe and try them yourself and doubt
no longer.
Owing to a corner in rubber, some of
the leading rubber factories are forced
to cease work. The rubber company
at Naugatuck, Conn., lias closed up ®nd
the Coiidu Rubber Company, one of lar
gest concerns in the world has begun to
cut down to one half the work it has
been doing.

The boas organ at Atlanta claims no
credit for the election of Messrs. Boyn
ton and Garrard; but merely for infor

election that such would be|the result.
What difference does it make? If any
two other men had been elected the
same attitude would have been taken
by that paper.

Mr. John W. Candler, who is seeking

Woman’s Best Friend
Jt Is well known to physicians, and alas too
wP.I kjgpm to suffering women themselves, that
they to numerous diseases peculiar
to their sex, such as suppression of Menses, pain
ful and scanty Menstruation. Congestion, Vleera
tlon and Falling ol the Womb, attended with an
endless train of syjuaatheUc and constitutional
disorders, which the whole life, and
which have long been considered as almost In
curable. But at last the remedy has been found in
Dr. J. Bradfield’s Female Regulator.
It is not a “cure all," but a remedy for one class
of diseases, all of which pertain to the Womb.
Any sufferer from the diseases mentioned can
taxe this remedy and thus relieve herself with
out revealing her condition to any one. and with
out subjecting her womanly modesty to the
shock ot an examination by a physician.
To bring health and happiness to the hemes of
suffering women Is a mission before which royal
favor sinks into insignificance. What earthly
benefaction can compare with one which pro
