Dear Sin—l scat myself to in

One of the Most Creditable of

For some time past the show win

| New Orleans exposition deserves
especial mention, It is a copy from
a design by Walter Crane, a very
distinguished English artist and a
noted illustrator of books. It was
made by him as a model for the
interior decoration of a million
aires house to be carved in rose
wood. We notice in it cockatoos
perched upon graceful houghs, and
peacocks standing in royal dignity
among the branches: cherubs,
with wings extended, idling the
j happy hours away and holding
from one to another festoons of
flowers ; in another place a hand
some little fellow, with curling
hair and covered by nothing but
nature's garb, sits holding tl e head
of Comedy while another below
him is fondling the head of Medusa.
Prominent in tnis deasigu is the
cornucopia tilled with luscious
fruit of all kinds, while on either
side stands the nine apple tree
| topped with its-delicious fruit so
! typical of a southern dime. In the
; center we notice a beautiful basket
■of flowers, and near them dusters
of grapes, while below these are
shocks of wheat, and on them the
sickle is carelessly thrown which
lias cut tlie golden grain. All these
(iguiey so numerous and so differ
-1 cut, a-e so happily blended with
j arabesque work that it makes a
! picture of perfect harmony and |
pleasing etteet. To get this design
ready for the loom required a
month’s work of artistic labor and
skill of the highest order. In no
part of America has this character
| of work ever before been attempt
ed. Such ■ goods have heretofore
| been imported from England at a
! very high price. The designs, if
i worked in silk, would be worth
i their weight in gold and would
class with tapestry in beauty of ex
ecution. The designs for theexpo-
sitionare made in all colors, old
gold and blue, crimson and gold,
cream and white, embracing in
fact all shades, from the most del
icate tint to the deepest hue.
Although this rare 4,esign was
| made chiefly for display, it will he
made hereafter reguarly for sale.
No handsomer present covdd he
made than one of these very crcd- j
it a! >lc novelties, which arc as use
ful and enduring as they are orna
mental and beautiful. YVc predict
I that the exhibit of these goods in
New Orleans will produce as much
[pleasure to visitors as any thing
