THURSDAY, APR. 6, 1899.
A GREAT EFFORT.
Dr. R. J. Willingham, who is loved
by everybody in Barnesviile, made a
great speech in Savannah Saturday
last at the State Baptist Convention.
The Savannah News thus speaks of
his address,on the subject of missions:
“Never in its history has the state
convention been so moved or display
ed so much feeling upon the subject
oi missions. The words of the elo
quent secretary of the board, Dr. R.
J. Willingham,so stirred and enthused
the hearts of the brethrea that it
seemed that they would nevfr get
through giving and pledging them
selves, nor cease praising God in
prayer and song for the blessings
which had been showered upon them.
“So great was the interest that all
other business was neglected after
Dr. Willingham had made his address,
and the convention gave no attention
to any other subject. The session
was continued for more than an hour
after the time for adjournment, and
it was not until the electric lights had
been turned on and the hour for the
night session was approaching that
the members could bring themselves
to break away from such a feast of
brotherly love and self-sacrifice in
behalf of the cause they love. Some
even opposed adjourning, and favor
ed continuing the session through
into the night session.
“It is seldom given fo any man to
so arouse and enthuse the hearts of
his fellow men in behalf of any cause
as was done by Dr. Willingham yes
terday afternoon in behalf of the for
eign mission cause. Old veterans of
the convention declared that never in
their remembrance had such a scene
been enacted in the Georgia Baptist
convention. Strong men wept and
words of praise and groans of emotion
answered every expression by the
speakers, and every petition to the
throne oi Grace.”
Roll of Honor.
The teachers of the Sixth, Fifth,
Fourth, and Third grades of Gordon
Institute have asked the Gazette to
publish at the end of each scholastic
month the names of those pupils who
l|ve been neither absent nor tardy,
and who have had no demerits.
They feel very proud of these who
have made this record this time, be
cause the children have had to con
tend against bad weather and an ep
idemic of roseola.

A Handsome New Dwelling'.
Dr. C. H. I‘erdue nas just closed a
contiact with Mr. A. O. Bennett for
the erection of a handsome two story
residence on Thomaston street, on
the lot which has long been the home
of the Perdue family. The present
house will be utilized to the best ad
vantage, but the plans call for a very
marked change and improvement,and
the new building promises to be one
of the handsomest and most thor
oughly equipped and conveniest resi
dences .in Barnesville. The plans
are drawn to include every modern
convenience, not to mar the beauty
of the structure in any manner.
Mr. Bennett already has the con
tract and the material will be ordered
and the work commenced at the
earliest date possible.
This home is in one of the most
popular ‘ections of the city and Dr.
Perdue proposes to erect such a resi
dence as he may always be proud of
it matters not how Barnesville may
grow.

DANGERS OF THE GRIP.
Tlio greatest danger from f.a Grippe
is of its resulting in pneumonia. If rea
sonable care is used, however, and Cham
berlain’s Cough Remedy taken, all
danger will he avoided. Among the tens
of thousands who have used this remedy
for la grippe wo have yet to learn of a
single case having resulted in pneuinto
nia, which shows conclusively tha tliis
remecy is a certain preventive of that
dangerous disease It will cure la grippe
in less time than any other treatment.

Handsome Barber Shop.
Barnesville now has one of the
handsomest barbershops in the state,
one that would be creditable in a
large city. Last week, George VV.
Jordan, the proprietor, put in a mag
nificent case, covering one whole side
of his shop. He has also repainted
the shop throughout and it is in first
class condition in every particular.
The shop is decidedly the best equip
ped shop Barnesville ever had.

Mr. W. H. Ellington won the $2.50

in Barnesville from Mrs. Mannie Bald
win Willis inviting them to the mar
riage of her daughter, Miss Nannie
Shelby, to Mr Allie McLelland Wal
drop, on Wednesday evening April
12th, at Fifth street Methodist church,
Waco, Tex. Miss Willis is quite well
remembered by the people of Barnes
ville by her residence here a few
years ago, and they will extend
her heartiest congratulations. She
was quite a popular young lady in
Barnesville and in fact had many
friends throughout this section of
Georgia.
There is more Catarrh in this sec
tion ol the country than all other dis
eases put together, and until the last
few years was supposed to be incur
able. For a great many years doctors
pronounced it a local disease, and
prescribed local remedies, and by
constantly failing to cure with local
treatment, pronounced it incurable.
Science has proven catarrh to be a
constitutional disease, and therefore
requires constitutional treatment.
Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufacturd by
F. J. Cheney & Cos., Toledo, Ohio, is
the only constitutional cure on the
market. It is taken internally in
doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful.
It acts directly on the blood and mu
cous surfaces of the system. They
offer one hundred dollars for any case
it fails to cure. Send for circulars
and testimonials. Address

Revival Services.
The meetings, which have been in
progress at the Methodist church for
three weeks were closed on Sunday
night. The services have been of
great blessing to the people w r ho at

the meetings would probably be taken
up again in May, and it has since
