THURSDAY, MAY 4, 1899.
LET IS*TAKE TIME.
An exchange gives the following
suggestions under the above head,
which we reproduce with the hope
that it may be helpfuf to the people
of Barnesville and to all who may
read this article. It is a day of rush
and work and worry. Men particu
larly do not take time to stop
and think even lor a few momets
about the everlasting things, the
things which perish not. A young
man said a few days ago that he did
not have time to go to church, as his
business needed his attention every
minute and yet his business will per
ish and pass away. An old man
said he could not go to church for
he had to look after his business, and
yet he will soon pass from the world
and leave his business. The young
and old, the rich and poor arc alike
absorbed in many cases to such an
extent that the things of most value
have the least consideration. Men
should take time to apply their hearts
unto wisdom. . •
But here is the article and it is
worthy of serious attention:
“Let us take time for the good bye
kiss. We shall go to the day's work
with a sweeter spirit for it.
“Let us take time for the evening
prayer. Our sleep will be more rest
ful if we have claimed the guar
dianship of God.
“Let us take time to speak sweet,
foolish words to those we love. By
and by, when they can no longer hear
us, our foolishness will seem more
wise than our best wisdom.
“Let us take time to read our Bi
ble. Its treasures will last when we
shall have ceased to care for the
war of political parties, and rise and
fall of stocks, or the petty happenings
of the day.
“Let us take time to be pleasant.
The small courtesies which we often
omit because they are small, will
some day look larger to us than the
wealth which we have coveted, or
the fame for which we have struggled. 1
‘:Let us take time to get acquaint-J
ed with our families. The wealth
you are accumulating, burdened
father, may be a doubtful blessing to
the son who is a stranger to you.
Your beautifully kept house, busy
mother, can never be a home to the
daughter, whom you have no time to
caress.
“Let us take time to get acquaint
ed with Christ. The hour is coming
swiftly, for us all, when one touch of
His hand in the darkness will mean
more than all that is written in the
daybook and ledger of our little social
world.
“Since we must all take time to
die, why should we not take time to
live—toli'e in the large sense of a
lite begun here for eternity."

Other towns and cities may be
dead and stop growing but Barnesviile
is always growing. There has not
been a day in years but what a build
ing of some kind was in progress.
All this is due to th~ enterprise of
the citizens. It did not come with
out effort and will not continue un
less the citizens of Barnesviile choose
to make it so. It is an opportune
time now to secure some other impor
tant manufacturing plants. This is
what rents houses and keeps mer
chants busy. This year ought not to
be allowed to pass without one or
more important manufacturing estab
lishments of some kind. The citizens
ought to be enterprising enough never
to allow an opportunity to pass for
securing a plant that will bring pros
perity to the little city and keep it
growing.

CESBUS SUPERVISORS.
It seems that Congressman Bart
lett, who represents this, the Sixth
district, always does that which will
please his constituents. The follow
ing from the Macon Correspondence
to the Constitution, shows what he
has accomplished in securing a white
man for census supervisor for the
district: *
“No census supervisor has yet been
appointed for this, the Sixth con
gressional district, but it is probable
that an appointment will soon be
made, for it is understood that Con
gressman Bartlett has recommended
a person for the place, and the ap
pointments for all the other con
gressional districts have been made.
It has been decided at Washington
that six of the districts in Georgia
shall have democratic supervisors and
five of the districts republican super
visors. The Sixth district is one of
the districts that will have a demo
cratic supervisor, and he will be a
white man. The Sixth district is to
be congratulated that such will be
the case. The First, or Savannah
district, is not so fortunate, as a ne
gro republican has been appointed
supervisor for it.
The supervisor will have to appoint
numerous census enumerators for each
county of the district, so it is very de
sirable to have a democratic super
visor. When the supervisor for the
Sixth district is appointed there will,
no doubt, be quite a rush ofc appli
cants for the positions of enumerators.
Each enumerator is paid 2 1-2 cents
for each name he obtains in his
territory. 'The salary of the super
visor will be not less than SI,OOO and
may be more. There is considerable
interest to know who will be the su
pervisor of the Sixth district. The
counties composing the Sixth district
are Baldwin, Butts, Fayette, Henry,
Jones, Monroe, l’ike, Spalding, Up
son. Total, ten counties.

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages
and that is catarrh. Hall’s Catarrh
Cure is only positive cure now known
to the medical fraternity. Catarrh
being a constitutional disease, re
quires a constitutional treatment.
Hall’s Catarrh Cure is taken inter
nally, acting directly upon the blood
and mucous surfaces of the system,
thereby destroying the foundation of
the disease, and giving the patient
strength by building up the constitu
tion and assisting nature in doing its
work. The proprietors hive so much
faith in its curative powers, that they
offer Oqe Hundred Dollars for any
case that it fails to cure. Send for
list of testimonials. Address,

no further trouble. Mr. J. B. Bank

•
When every farmer in the south
shall eat bread from his fields and
meat from his own pastures,' and is
disturbed by no creditor and enslaved
by no debt, shall sit amid his teaming
gardens and orchards and vineyards
and dairy and barnyard, pitching his
crops in his own wisdom, and grow
ing them in independence, making
cotton his clear surplus, and selling
it in his own time and in his chosen
market, and not at a masters bidding
•—getting his pay in cash, and not in
a receipted mortage that discharge
his debts but does not restore his
freedom—then shall be the breaking
of the fullness of our day. Great
is King Cotton. But to lie at his
feet while the user and grain raiser
bind us in subjections, is to invite the
contempt of man and the reproach of
God. But to stand up before him
amid the crops and smokehouses,
wrest from the magna charta of our
•ndependence and to establish in his
name an ample and diversified agri
culture that shall honor him while it
enriches us, his is to carry us as far
in the way of happiness and indepen
dence as the farmer working in the
fullest wisdom and in the richest field
can carry any people.

Will Probably Live In (Jrifflu.
The Griffin Correspondent of The
Telegraph contained the following
item of interest to the readers of The
Gazkete:
“Major Marcus W. Beck of the
Third Georgia regiment, who is better
known and loved and feared in this
section as Judge Beck, was in the
city today and looked his healthy gen
ial self. In reply to the question of
“Will you become one of us?” he
said:
“It is probable that I will make
Griffin my home, but I don't know
just where I will have my residence.
Of course I will practice law for a
living and as for a partner, 1 have
made no definite arrangements tor
anything as yet.”
With an expressive shrug of the
shoulders and a genial smile, the talk
was at an end, but Griffin has stamp
ed its seal upon one of the brainy
men of Georgia, and we believe Mar
cus W. Beck, be he judge, major or
private citizen, is ours.”
