MISS MIMS TO MARRY
MR. SHAEFFER
Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Mims
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Miss Martha
Jean Mims, to Lt. Terry Lee
Shaeffer, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Shaeffer of Vander
grift, Pa.
Miss Mims’ grandparents
are the late Mr. and Mrs. J.
T. Mims and Mrs. H. A Has
tey and the late Mr. Hastey.
Her brother is David Mims.
The ’groom’s grandfather
is Frank Shaeffer of Vander
grift, Pa. His sister is Mrs.
John Fisher.
The bride-elect was gradu
ated from Seminole County
High School and will receive
the B.S. degree from Valdosta
State College in August.
The 'groom was graduated
from Vandergrift Area Junior
-Senior High School and from
Thiel College, Greenville, Pa.
He was a member of Alpha
Chi Rhe social fraternity. He
is a lieutenant in the Air
Force and is presently station
ed at James Connaly AFB in
Waco, Texas.
An August wedding is
planned.

Mrs. Loretta Long and Mr.
Paul Herring were quietly
married at the home of
friends at eight o’clock on
Friday evening, January 24.
The Rev. J. H. Moss was the
officiating minister. Mrs.
Helen Hatcher of Columbus,
sister of the bride, was ma
served as his brother’s best
man.
Mrs. Herring, the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Combs
of Dayton, Tenn., made her
home in Albany several years
where she was employed at
Phoebe Putney Memorial Hos
pital. Having many friends
here and in Jakin she trans
ferred to Donalsonville seve
ral months ago and joined the
nursing staff at Seminole
Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Herring is the youngest
son of Mr. and Mrs. H. S.
Herring, of Jakin, and for
some time was employed by
Great Southern Land and Pa
per Company, Cedar Springs.
Since the first of the year he
has been employed in the of
fice of Seminole Memorial
Hospital. .
Mr. and Mrs. Herring will
reside in Donalsonville where
they have a host of friends
who wish for them much
happiness. *
It is good to see Betsy Biv
ings able to be out following
an illness of several days at
Seminole Memorial Hospital.

patient at Seminole Memorial

MR. GRANT
The engagement of Miss
Virginia Louise Mims to Mr.
Billy Grant of Donalsonville
is announced by the bride
elect’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. C. Mims of Donalsonville.
The bride-elect is a gradu
ate of Seminole County High
School. She is the grand
daughter of Mrs. T. J. Haw
kins and the late Mr. Haw
kins of Donalsonville, and the
late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Mims,
also of Donalsonville. She is
employed by Merchants and
Farmers Bank.
Mr. Grant is also a graduate
iof Seminole County High
School. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Hubert Grant, Don-
I alsonville. His grandparents
are Mrs. Lee Grant and the
late Mr. Grant of Columbus,
and Mr. Idus Faircloth and
the late Mrs. Faircloth of
Donalsonville.
The wedding will take place
at 2:30 p. m. on Sunday,
February 9, fin the Trinity
Methodist Church. No invita
tions are being sent, all
friends and relatives are in
vited.

Poole, Sr., of Fernandina
Beach, Fla. announce the en

Sylvia Elaine, to James Ed
ward Beard, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Beard of Fernan
dina Beach. The wedding will

The prospective bride and
groom are g:|iduates of Fer
nandina Beach High School
and are completing their
sophomore year at Florida
State University, where they
are majoring in Business Edu
cation and Commercial Art,
respectively. '
The groom, a former resi
dent of Donalsonville, is the
grandson of Mr. W. E. Mar
tin, of Iron City.

interest. They are expected
back when we see them —the
roamers.

Justice of Peace Mack Fain,

his illness at a hospital in N.C.

2nd. Lieutenant and Mrs.;

turned to Fort Knox, Ky., |
after spending several days
with Mrs. Redford’s parents,

spent the week-end with her

eral of her uncle, Mr. Robert

er returned to their home in
West Allis, Wisconsin, after
a two weeks visit with Mr.
and Mrs. Caleb Spooner and
other relatives.
Mr. Wilson Roberts, of Iron
City, accompanied his daugh
ter, Mrs. Thelma Reese, to
Augusta Monday where she
will be under observation two
or three days at St. Joseph’s
Hospital. From there they go
to Blairsville where Dr. Cliff
Cannon, Jr., has arranged for
a specialist from Gainesville
to further examine Mrs.
Reese. Friends here hope that
the physicians’ reports will
be favorable.

abound the first of February.
They have purchased a home
i in Columbia, Ala., where Mr.
! Estes will be nearer his work
at the Great Southern paper
mill.
Woman’s club views ore-act play by
speech pupils at its recent meeting
The Woman’s Club met on
Friday afternoon in the so
cial hall of the First Baptist
Church with Mrs. Melton Ra
bon, Mrs. Ross Thomas, Mrs.
Grady Richardson, Mrs. Joe
Howard and Mrs. Julia Shing
ler as hostesses.
After a brief business ses
sion with Mrs. Truett Ro
berts, president, presiding, a
delightful one-act play was
given by some of the speech
pupils of Mrs. Porter Smith.
The classical play, entitled
“Darkness Falls on Laugh
ter”, had a talented cast with
Ronnie King playing the role
of Apollo and Miss Sue Rey
nolds playing Cassandra. The
beautiful maidens were Miss
Wanda Webb,, Misp .'Maiy
Moseley, Miss Linda Bridges,
Miss Linda Stout, Miss Wanda
Brooks and Miss Mary Ann
Jenkins. They wore long
dresses in the classical Greek

Mrs. Beth Lomineck and
children, Sharon and Teri, of
Philadelphia, have returned
to their home after a two
weeks’ visit to Mrs. Lomi
neck’s mother, Mrs. Emmett
Alday, and Mr. Alday.

Mrs. Tuttle Smith of Ft.
Myers, Fla., was the guest of
Mrs. E, C. Smith on Tuesday
and Wednesday. They enjoyed
having dinner with Mrs. rred
Hodges on Tuesday.
Mrs. Nellie Howard has re
turned to her home here after
spending a week in Colquitt
as the guest of Mr. and Mrs.
“Buck” Stein. While she was
away Mrs. Reuben Lane who
suffered a fractured leg in
December spent the time with
Mr. and Mrs. Garland Lane.
Mrs. Lane’s friends hope that
she will soon be able to te
out again.
