Instant Apple Sauce
From the laboratories of
the U.S- Department of Agri
culture has come yet artotrier
convenience food, instant ap
ple sauce.
The new product, consist
ing of free-flowing granules,
reconstitutes easily with the
addition of hot water. It
makes a sauce of the same
fine flavor and desirable
grain as that made from fresh
apples. As an added conveni
ence, it may be stored for long
periods without refrigertftroh
if protected from moisture
pickup.
The explosive puffing pro
cess that has made instant ap
ple sauce possible was develop
ed by scientists of USDA’s
agricultural research service.
It has previously been used
with blueberries;
potatoes, carrots, beets, tur
nips and sweet potatoes.
