Tn another colnmn a correspondent, signing himself “Democrat," suggests the name of Hon. Walter T. McArthur, of Montgomery county, in connection with congressional hon ors from this, the 3rd district. We heartily and unreservedly endorse the suggestion. Indeed, every word of ths com munication referred to meets our approbation. There is no man in the district who would re present r.s more faithfully or more ably than Air. AlcArtlmr. We are not advised as to AD*. Ate Arthur’s in tentions in this connection. Should ho enter the race, however, we in advance, pledge him onr earnest, honest, and undivided support. McArthur For Congress. Editors Times:—Whilo our peoplo avo very much interested in the making up of the slate for local or county preferments, we should not overlook the fact that this is the year for election of congressman. And neither should wo lose sight of the fact that for our material pros perity and genera] advancement our congress ional representatives are in a manner repon sihle. While I have no tight to make upon Mr. Crisp, I think we have men in our midst equally as fitted for the position; men of true and tried merit, and men whom wo all should and would feel proud to honor. And in my opin ion, in this district, no man is bi tter fitted for the position than Air. Walter T. McArthur, of Montgomery county. 110 is a man of expe rience and ability and influence. A truer friend never lived. His public spirit is daily manifested by his acts of munificence towards everything of a public nature. Those who ke.Lv him can vouch for liis ability, ami know that lie will look well after tlio interests of lii3 constituency and see that liis district is accorded its equal share with other parts of tho State, that have heretofore been more spe cially favored. I don’t konw whether Air. Mc- Arthur would accept the nomination or not, hut Tdo know that he can and will do us as good in tlio legislative halls of Congress as any man we can send. Respectfully suggested, Democrat. Eastman, Ga., March 30,1880. Summer Stars. By Dasy Reid’ Alone ami weary stand J huge O summer stars; Under the wondrous minstrelsy No discord mars. As site grows up she stamps each notable ad venture and each pleasant friendship upon her mind by some token. Onr dime museums with their meagre col lection of odds and bits, would pale into nothingness when compared with the bottom drawer of a girl’s bureau. This she generally devotes to her keepsakes. At the ago of live she begins storing it with hcrse-chestuuts and broken bits of colored pencils given lier by dear friends. Some of these are the mysteries of tho “secrets” which nro the life of childhood's freemasonry. Ry ten she has a gold piece, generally, bestowed by bnclielor uncle, and perhaps some tokens from friends that are dead. There nro pressed four-leaved clovers, pin-cushions with zoological tendencies, gray-flannel rabbits and such, a few carefully pre served valentines, some bottles t hat once held perfumery and now present only a fading recollection to the nostrils. At seventeen she has some faded violets, some locks of hair, a few scraps ot dried orange-peel, a collection of dancing programmes, and, carefully tucked in the furthermost corner, a bundle of notes, tied with a blue ribbon. As tho years pass, still the treasures increase. Ry and by the wedding slippers are laid away iti the drawer which holds the valcntiues aud still, as the years pass, comes a pair of the wee’st shoes kicked out at heel, and a silken curl, which shows a silvery gold in the light. After this the keepsakes are fewer, aud areofteuor the souvenirs of sad days than the glad ones. Finally, after a long time, some ono lays away iu the drawer a thumbed red testment, with a lock of gray hair aud a thread-thin wedding-ring. Then the drawer is locked. Reaching Kis Grandmother’s Heart. Clinton Bugle. “Gran’ma,” said a boy of nine years, “how old are you?” “About sixty-six,” said tho grand mother. “You’ll die soon, wont you, grun’- uni?” “And when I dio gran’inti, can I be buried ’side of you?” “Yes dear,” said she as her heart warmed towards the little one, whom she folded closer in her arms. "Graii'nia,” softly whispered the little rogue, “gimme ton cents.” Jury List.
