Peterson, in conpany with her husband, paid this office a visit Saturday after noon. —We hoar that there is a hear and cub in the woods and swamps of Long Pond district, in this county. —The coanty-Schooi Board was in session Monday mid Lies lav, licensing teachers and executing contracts for public schools. —We are glad to announce that Mrs. Loud, t wife of Col. Charles D. Loud of this place, who ! lias been confined to her bed for many mouths I frith rheumatism, is slowly convalescing. j —George Dunham and J. Z. Busheaught a hater moccasin in their fish net on yesterday morning in the Oconee river near this place, that was 5 feet long and 4 inches in diameter. —lt is requested that there be a general turn Out of the members of Star of Hope lodge to morrow night, especially those who wi re as signed parts in the charade Fruits Os the Wim Cup; and all who have pamphlet copies of that play are requested to have them there at that time. —We have been placed under very many Obligations to Mrs. Jns. T. McCullough for beans, sweet potato*, onious and oi le r garden products, and to Miss Gnssie for many and re peated acts of thoughtful kindness toward our young house keeper. They will accept a thous and thanks. Mrs. Sarah Peterson, living 7 miles east of here presented to Ilov. A. H. Bazenxoro ot this place, a few days ago, two Cabbages from her garden, that turned the scale at 13 and 15% !tis, respectively, one of which measured 3 feet j across. What has Gilmer county, or Fannin, j got to sav to that? —Mrs. A. H. Bazemoro will plcareacccpt the thanks of the editor of the Monitor for repeat ed favors in tho item of Irish potato* from her garden. As we commenced house keeping too late for a gax'den, these favors have proven exceedingly acceptable,- and for which we are accordingly thankful. Death from Snake Bite.— Miss Gertie' Martin, a lovely and amiable young lady of Fort Valiev, was bitten by a rat tlesnake last week, while on a visit to relatives in Tatnall, and died from its effects at 11 O’clock tho same night.
