Ho is a good and competent man for the place, and will make a good offi cer if elected. —The hogs in the vicinity of town aro al dying np with the cholera. McPhail lias the job in baud, amt lias al ready commenced work on it. —The Presbyterian church has just been the recipient of a coat of paiut, inside and out. It has also been furnished with a new set of seats. The edifice now presents a very neat appear ance. Great credit is due, ill regard to these much needed improvements, to tlio efforts of Rev. W. A. Jones, the pastor, who did a goodly portion of the painting with Ill's own bauds— working for nothing and hoarding himself. —Mrs. Mattie Mason, who has been spend ing Borne months visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Smith of this place, left on Saturday last, via Spring Hill, where she will spend a few days with her sister Mrs. Powell, for Florida where we understand she and her husband will make their future home. And she took with her the the fairest and brightest of her sex, her little daughter Rirdie. If wo never see the little sprite again, we shall always feel thankful for the privilege of having seen and loved her. Installation Service.— Rev. J. W. Montgomery, Rev. J. Qnsrterman and elder J. N. Miller, a commission from the Savannah Presbytery, will hold religious ser vices at the Presbyterian church at this place, on Saturday and Sunday, the 14th and 15th of August, to install Rev \V. A. Jones as pastor of said church. Ordination of deacons and elder will take place at that time. Every member of the Presbyterian church is expected to attend, and all other church members, and the public generally, are invited to attend. Services to commence ou Saturday and close on Sunday. —A burglary was committed upon our office last Sunday night, or eveniug. On Monday morning upon repairing to the office to open np for the day, we found that mo door had been forced open hv pushing against it and forcing off the catch that secured the bolt of the lock. It was evidently an attempt to break the store of William McLemore, which is separated from the office only by a partition. The evidences of the attempt to pry open the partition door are plainly visible. The at tempt to enter the store, however, was a failure, and the job a miserable botch, unworthy the efforts of a professional cracksman. No dam age resulted, except the breaking of the door and knocking a small amount of type into pi. —Last Saturday while we were absent at Lothair, Mrs. C’ T. Smith, in company with her husband, called at our office and left ns a nice present of a bottle of wine. Being a Good Templar, we cannot drink it, but we have dili gently searched through the constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations, and we find nothing ill them all that forbids us to Bmell of the cork!
