He ha* a host ol friend* in this rountv, and if the choice lay with the people, he would carry this county by an overwhelm ing vote. —The sermon of Rev. W. A. Jones, at the Presbyterian church last Sunday, was an ex ceptionally fine piece of pulpit oratory. It was upon the subject that was uppermost in the minds of all hi* hearers, earthquakes, and was replete with information, show ing a full know l edge atnl mastery of his subject. Hi* conclu sions were logical, and ably enforced. Alto gether it was an intellectual and religion* feast such a* we have seldom been permitted to en joy. —Several of onr weekly exchanges of the 2nd and 3rd, came to ns this week that con tained no reference whatever to the earth quake. We do not understand that kind of J.rarnalisin. That the most astounding anil heart rending event that ha* ever occurred upon this continent since its inhabitation by man should take place, and a newspaper pub i.hed two day* after the oeenrren^e—in some instances on the lino of the railroad and tele graph--should not even allnde to it. i qui*. beyond onr eoniprckensiou.
