The schedule on the mail route from

changed as to give us the mail from the
railroad without lying over a day in the
former place. It makes it very late at
night whoa it arrives at this place, how
ever.
We have been naked several times
recently, the meaning of the word

—Chattooga county presents a rather
anomalous state of things in criminal
history at this time. Oue man stands
convicted and under sentence of death,
(and would have been huug but for Lx- ;
ecutive interference) and Dow they have ;
another roan under arrest for committing !
not a similar, but the identical fame
crime. Hope they will get the matter
straight before they hang either of the
men.
—The Sunday school picnic, remem
ber, is oa the 15th of September. It is
theanunal celebration of the County S.
H. Association, and is to be under the j
supervision of that body. It is not a lo- j
cal matter, pertaining to Mt. Vernonj
only, but is to be a county affair, in j
which each school belonging to the As- !
sociatioo has just as much interest, and
a 3 maoy rights, as tha school here. Wo
would utge each school to at once ap
point their essayists and dPciamatioDists
and notify us of their action, so that the
proper steps can he taken to arrange a
suitable program in time for publication
and general circulation.
