—Mr. J. P. Wood, of Tapper, writes
to us that he has not received a copy of
tit]* paper in three weeka, until the 27th,
and that was dated in July. Mr. Wood’s
paper has been regularly mailed to him,
every Wednesday morning, iu a package
with others, and should reach Topper
the same day it is printed. As his pa
per aud the others are done up in the
nme wrapper, one cannot miscarry, en
route, and the others go safely through.
And as the others make no complaint,
it is presumable that they get theirs all
right. Perhaps the postmaster at Tup
per could throw some light ou this mut
ter.
—The Sunday school picnic, remem
ber, is on the 16th of September. It is
the annual celebration of the County 8.
S. Association, and is to be nuder the
supervision of that body. It is not a lo
cal matter, pertaining to Mt. Vernon
only, but is to be a county affair, in
which each school belonging to the As
sociation has just as much interest, aud
an many right*, as the school here. We
would urge each school to at once ap
point theiv essayists and deciamutionists
and notify ua of their action, bo that the
proper steps can be taken to arrange a
suitable program in time for publication
and general circulation.

torn it down and hauled it away.
—On last Friday afternoon Miss Liz
zie Adams, of Adamsville, and her sister,
Mrs. SimpsoD, of Lansburg, did this
office the honor of a short call. They
had scarcely left, when Miss Mary Stan
ford and Miss Kate Bbarpe shed the
light of their countenances upon us.
We began to think a “conspiracy” had
bad been formed against us, but—oome
again ladies.
—Last Tuesduy, late in the afternoon,
after our forms had been made up for
Wednesday's paper, Mr. Ed. Rogers
exhibited to us a pear, raised by Mr.
Jos. Adams, a few miles above here,
that weighed a pound aud a quarter,
