We have boon requested to correct
the siuteaieut made in these columns
last week as to the number of hands who
met and refused to work it cutting out
the road from Peterson to LotUair. It
was given as “about a hundred, ’ but it
in now stated to ns that there “vviikd t
near that many.” Our first informant
m.ivm yet tlmt there were from a hundred
to a hundred uud fifty, while tho otliur
gentleman say.i that tlieio were not more
than from forty to sixty. lie also says
tlmt none of tiie land owners were there
objecting to the road going through
their laud, and tlmt only one hand quit,
on tho lower, or Peterson end of the road,
while our llrst informant said they all
quit but one, and tlmt all the land own
ers were objecting uud that several of
them swore they would atop it by the
ahot gnu if necessary.
This is quite a difference in statement
of facts, but wo think it abundantly evi
dent that there is some opposition to the
road. We do uot know but that we may
take a hand in the discussion of this
road question yet before it is settled. In
tbe mean time, wo invito the friends and
opponents of the road to a tree and fair
discussion of its utility or inutility, in
our coin nine, prior to tho time when
the County Commissioners will tie called ]

Since tho partial nbolitiou of whiskey
—the licensed traffic in it—one of the
most remarkable features of Dublin is
its moral improvement. Before the
public sale of the deadly poison was
prohibited it was no uncommon thing
to see two dozen drunken men on the
streets, using profane and vulgar lan
guage, that could be liourd for several
hundred yards around, and shooting oft
pistols during all hours of the night.
This is not the case now. Instead of
seeing such disrespectful conduct,
j caused by the disrepntublo indulgence
of strong drink, and hearing such bit

thereby, a mar sighted niau can sec
