Tho Charleston Post refers to Governor Candler as the “Hen Tillman” of Georgia. Governor Candler seems to think the Atlanta people go wild when a stranger comes to town. We always thought they were not accustomed to much company up there. Dr. Porkhurst says the South ern people don’t like the negro, hr.d do not claim to, and the peo ple of the tfortli do not like tin begro, nndbb about it. We al wnvM kimw tho Southern people Were truthful. ♦ • ♦ It is hard on the school teach ers to do without their money, but Treasurer Park is under a hugh bond, and the people hold him responsible. We think he is acting right. The legislature should see that this thing does not occur again. Gov. Candler is having lots of had luek tiiis year. The Bruns wick Maritine Onigress gave him lots of trouble; Ins comments ~n the Ogden party have set all the newspapers to talking about him, and now the State Treasurer re fuses to pay the school teachers out of a fund not intended for them, when the governor has ordered him to use this fund in that way. The editor of the Oglethorpe Echo tells us that a Mr. Smith, near his town, has found a few heads of oats in his field, and this is looked upon by the newspaper man as quite phstioimnul, and he thinks it is an indication of a failure of the oat crop. This is Perfectly natural —oats head out every spring, and if Mr. Smith will wait a few week, the whole business will head out. They surely drink hud liquor out there. LOTH A IK Dr, Rountree was in town last week. Came over to see Mrs. Early Davis, and called by to see l)r. Harwick. J. ('. It is with reluctance that we give him up as a citizen, hut we are glad to know«tliat his estimable family will remain. Hro. Flanders will begin a I series of meetings hero on Friday i next. We hope these meetings ! will be attended and much good! done. | A hold theif entered the home of Mr. Jack Burch Sunday night j secured a small amount of money, j j and made his escape, lb* Li rut entered the room of Mr. Burch taking the money from his cloth ing, he then entered the room of Mrs. Burch, turned out the light and proceeded to make a search. She was aroused from her slum ber hv the noise and asked if it washer husband, he replying yes. She then began to talk to him and discovering it was someone else, she screamed, her husband coming to her rescue, blit too lute to capture him. (J. lioots Kor Georgia Fanners. Wo note somo good suggestions in a late bulletin issued from the Experi ment station Manhattan. Kansas. The horse, cow or sheep will do well and thrive on good pasture in spring and summer alone. But if this grass be cut and cured into good hay and fed alone to the animals they will lose their appetites in a short time and be come thinner and will cease to look well. Cause? The hay is a dry, while the grass is a .succulent, feed. Reme dy: Grow some succulent food for the winter. After corn silage, wo would suggest roots as perhaps the next best succulent feed for winter use. One of the best of root feeds is the mangel wurzels. Su gar beets havo been grown successfully by only a few Georgia farmers, so far as we know. Mangels can be grown profitably in our climate, provided a good rich soil, with plenty of moisture, is selected. Prepare au acre of laud as you would a garden, and dropping the seed as you plant garden beets, in rows 30 inches apart. Six pounds of seed are required for an acre. The loug red mangel yields most, but it is not a good keeper. The golden tankard will keep until June. ■Cultivate as you do corn. Thin with a boo to one plant every six inches in tho row.
