supposing that they would look after j

Fire
Last Sunday about noon, the par
sonage of the colored Methodist
church was burned. Fire started at
the top of the house, and originated
from a spark from the stove flue.
Everybody, both white and colored,
turned out, ayd in a few minutes
everything movable was earned to a
placo of safety, even the sash wore
taken from tlie windows. No other
house was near, and the fire did not
spead. We learn that the colored
people will rebuild at once.

stealing a ride. Tlie negro drew his
pistol and shot a colored train hand,
who returned the lire, hitting his
man twice. The train hand died
within an hour, and the tramp died

Get Dogs
The county commissioners, sheriff,
or some body, should have one or
more good dogs with which to run
down criminals. Sunday night some
one entered the residence of Mr.
Jack Burch, at Ailey, and robbed |
him of a small amount of money. 1
Two residences were entered at
Higgston tlie same night, and in each
case the burglars escaped. if
Sheriff Higgs owned a good dog, he
could have captured all of these
i burglars, probably. If it is possible
let’s have a good clog, one is needed
almost every week.
