AN AGRICULTURAL CLUB |
ORGANIZED AT HIGGSTON
An agricultural unit was organized
at Higgs ton last Friday by County
Agent Tyre, and later he plans to
organize similar agricultural clubs in
every section of Montgomery county.
The purpose of the unit is to fos
ter farming, and add to the agricul
tural phase 1 of the work special train
ing in business that would naturally
be included in successful farm work
and successful marketing.
The Higgston unit will meet again
Friday to perfect the organization,
and the farmers of that section are
urged to attend and take part in the
enterprise.
Mr. Tyre reports progress in the
pig club work of Montgomery coun
ty, which was put on by him. Spe
cial reference may be made to the
marked success of Chester Moxlev
of Mt. Vernon, Route 1, who entered
the work with a vim and who will
have something to show for his ef
forts.
One of the chief ideas in the pig
club work as organized by the coun
ty agent is to have a largo number
of boys raise and fatten a pig and
have it ready for fall sale. It is not
necessary for every hoy to raise a
thoroughbred hog, hut he must he
made an animal calculated to meas
ure up to the standard required for
market purposes.
In this manner a large number of

from a recent attack of appendicitis,
which was relieved by an operation

Miss Charlie Will Salter has return
ed home, after attending a music con
servatory at Jacksonville. Miss Sal
ter is the eldest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. S. Z. Salter of North Mt.
Vernon, and is to he complimented
on her musical attainment. She is
a violinist of remarkable skill.

HOG SALE AT AILEY
ATTRACTS MANY BUYERS
Attention is again called to the hog
sale at Ailey on the 15th inst. This
sale is the result of efforts on the
part of County Agent Tyre of Mont
gomery county, and the farmers and
stock raisers of this section are pre
i paring stock for the special sale.
The sale will attract a number of
buyers, and at least a carload will
he disposed of at the highest mar
ket prices. These public sales com
mand for the stock raiser the highest
market prices. The stock is to be
graded by a disinterested man, and
those furnishing stock are assured of
fair treatment.

will be held on the second Tuesday
instead of the first Tuesday in June.
