Prohibition for Turkey;
Prohibition in America.
Shades of consistency! One
reads with interest that Turkey,
reputed to be the most barbarious
nation on earth, has recently en
t acted a most strenuous prohibi
tion law one by far more strin
gent than that adopted by the
‘ Christian nation of America.
The Turkish law seems iron-clad,
and offenders subject themselves
to severe penalties. All but three
States of the Union (Maryland,
Massachusetts and California)
and in addition to Federal law,
have state laws governing the
Bale of liquor, and yet the viola
tion is more extensive than the
laws of forty-five states are nil
merous. Turkey, though seem
ingly upheld by the strong right
arm of the Devil, seems to re
alize that liquor is one of the nu
merous curses which beset her,
and has taken steps to check its
use, and the United States, rock
ed in the cradle of self-righteous
ness, is verily wrapped up with
prohibitive measures—and literal
ly drenched in illicit liquor. Tur
key must have reached the point
in its bloody existence where self
preservation demands the con
servation of her man power; she
knows that temperance adds
strength to her physical man
hood. America should see ales
son in Turkey’s action. If a
blood-soaked nation d mands
temperance, what may be said
of a Christian nation that re
jects it?
Too Much Athletics for
the Good of Schools.
President Riggs of Clemson
College well says that too much
lime is spent on athletics, par
ticularly football, to the neglect
of college work. I)r, M. M.
Parks, state Commissioner of ed
ucation of Georgia, heartily
agrees with him, and cities the
enormity of the state spending
hundreds of. dollars on men
whose chief vocation is that of
play, instead of attention to
studies. He further says that
in many instances scholarship
is playing second fiddle to ath
letics, spur ami society. I his is
the soundest doctrine we have
heard enunci ited on this line in
years. Dr. Parks enters at least
a suggestive protest against this
waste of time and demoralizing
tendency. Some day this view
nmy cost Dr. Parks a job, but if
he has done anything in his of
ficial career to check this rot, he
will have conferred a great ser
vice on the State of Georgia.
Think of a tot —thousands of
them —not far removed from tb<
ABC class or kindergarten, j
trudging to school loaded down
with footballs, basketballs and'
baseball paraphernalia, taught ti
waste time and money at play, to ;
the neglect of studies. The habit |
grows, and the tendency to va
grancy in manhood is the result
When children are trained up to
play ball in the streets, as hun j
dreds of them do, their parents,
may well expect to have them
converted into street vagrants in
later years; and when they are
allowed to devote a vast amount
of time to it during school days,
it is very evident that they are
not devoting full time to school,
work, and the result is too plain
to be misunderstood.
The Bryan Enterprise, Pem
broke, has been reorganized, and
under the new management will I
take high rank among Georgia
weeklies. Theirs is to 1e a new
outfit, by which the appearance
of the paper will be greatly im
proved. Success to it.

Practically every senator who
took active part in seating Sena

recent election. The statement
that bis term in the senate hangs
by a thread seems to be well
founded, as it is expected that
this issue will again be brought
up in the next session of con

It seems so as far as the Consti

Ford parts, like almost everything else
worthwhile, are counterfeited. Imitation
parts are manufactured to SELL at the
highest possible rate of profit and the
grades of steel used are consequently not
the same high quality, specially heat
treated alloy steels specified in Ford
formulas for the manufacture of GEN
UINE FORD PARTS.
Don’t be misled —Insist upon GENUINE FORD
PARTS made by the Ford Motor Company. By
so doing you will get from 35 to 100 per cent
more wear from them, and you will pay the
lowest possible cost —the same everywhere.

lUp Hill- -or Down I
None of us are standing still. In these modern and strenuous §
times there is no middle ground. We ar-i either progressing or retro- S
grading; we are either going forward or backward. To which class do jSj
you belong? S
Are you spending more than you make? If you are doing this,
or even if you are merely spending all you make, you belong to the *
down hill class, for you are losing the opportunity to lay up something B
for the future every day that passes. “The mill will never grind with
the water that has passed.” 2
On the other hand, if you are saving persistently and syste- |
matically, be it ever so little, you are in the up hill, or progressive 8
class; you are not a drone but are on the road to indepence, and will Q
some day be a power in the land, for frhgce never was a truer saying §
than “money is power.” g
Let us help you on the up-hill or progressive road. S
