BRADY COUNTY PROGRESS

ROADS
There is plenty of discussion
now, pro and con, as to road mat
ters. Almost everybody is talk
ing about roads from some stand
point or other. The County
Commissioners, the organized
head of the County Government,
are being criticized on every
hand for the large exbenditures
of money and the poor returns
for same. Every district, nearly
is demanding road service and
want it RIGHT NOW. And no
boubt they need it right now.
This paper is in sympathy with
the Commissioers of Grady coun
ty just at this time. The job isx
a thankless one at best, and
when the people are criticizing
it becomes a worrisome and per
plexing job. We know, as every
one knows, that it is the desire
and purpose of the Board to do
justice to all; to get the very best
returns for the expenditures pos
sible for the Peoples’ money.
But this work of building roads
is a GREAT BIG JOE-AN EX
PENSIVE JOB-as well as an
IMPORTANT Job
This paper is not going to crit
icize; nor is it going to advise,
not being familliar with the pro
gress of the work nor conditions
in the county. But we hope
that the people will exercise all
possible patience, keeping in
mind the fact that the weather
for the past fourteen or fifteen
months has been unfavorable
for road work and terrible on
the roads already worked.
About the best thing to be
done—and about the only thing
that can be done—to relieve pres
ent conditions-is to have one or
more repair gangs that may be
easily transferred from one part
of the county to another. This
gang could relieve present per
plexities by repairing the bad
places, keeping the roads in fair
condition, until the larger gang
of road builders could get there
for permanent improvement.
From the general reports of
road conditions, we think this
plan is an imparative necessity,
no matter what it costs-
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
HOLD MONTHLY MEEING
The County Commissionerd
. were in monthly session Tuesday
and had quite a busy and perplex
ing day. Besides the regular
routine business, there were a
number of complaints from sever
al districts as to the condition of
the roads and the manner of
working them. A strong delega-
toin from Spence district went
before the Commissioners and
asked for immediate relief from
distressing road conditions. Mess
rs. A. J. Godwin.. J. A. Pope,
T. J. Watts, Jeff Davis, and oth
ers, headed the delegation. They
Were represented by Hon. W. B.
Roddenbery, ’ who made a very
interesting talk about road work,
past present and future.
Outside of road discussion,
there was nothing of pnbl'.c in
terest except the paying of bills,
and the expenditures was about
like the usual monthly demands.
