Washington all summer, while
Mr. Butler only spent two weeks.
Mr. R. B. McCord of Atlanta
visited his brother, Dr. McCord
of our town Monday last.
School did net open in Whig-
ham this week until Wednesday
on account of illness of Superin
tendent Barber the first pare of
the week.
Mr. J. H. Perritt is running
the Parker gin now in full force,
all he needs now is cotton and
he will do the balance.
Messrs..E. B. Stapleton, and
S. P. Cain went to Moultrie Fri
day last to consult a specialist
regarding their eyes.
There will be services at both
■churches next Sunday by the
pastors in charge.
Everything is getting lively
out at Boydville, grading, clear

not be long befpre the big mill
will begin to buzz.
The Dixie Drug Co., a new
firm, will open up their new
stock of drugs etc., in their new
building on the corner where the
Harrell Drug Co. was burned,
next week.
Mr. W. R. Hawthorn has just
received an order for one hun
dred and fifty thousand brick to
be delivered Nov. 1st. He is
working in full force to get them
ready.
Prospects are very bright for
the finest term of school that we
have ever had in Whigham,
The e'ectric light bonds have
baen validated, so without some
further complication Whigham
will soon have a light plant in
operation.
We understand that at an early
date Mr. Eugene Leste will erect
a handsome bungalow on his
beautiful lot on West Broad st.
The Dixie Drug Co. will have
one of the handsomest drqg
stores in the county when every
thing is ready for business.
Mr. C. C. Harrell of Bain-
bridge, better known as “Mart”
Harrell, is arranging to open a
general supply store in Whig-
ham at an early date. He de
sires a liberal amount of stock to
be taken by the citizens. This is
the finest opening in South West
Georgia for such a store.
Hon. S. R. Blanton came over
Monday hist to fill an engage
ment to deliver an address on
the subject “The Empire of
Knowledge” at the opening of
Whigham High School, but ow
ing to the illness of the Principal
the school did not open on Mon
day and the people missed a
treat.
The big mill out at Boydville
will install their own electric
light plant, and we understand
that they will build a large hotel

their big will plant.
The merchants are determined
to have their share of the cotton

were paying 12 6-8c for good

1-2 cent under in Southwest

chants are paying Savannah
prices for good cotton.

years old.
Miner’s criminal career began
nearly sixty years ago. He is
said to have left his home in
Kentucky before he was fifteen

admitted numerous stage coach
robberies and train hold-ups and
was several times incarcerated

worked North in Canada and
then invaded the Eastern states.

Dual Tragedy In Jenkins County
Millen, Ga., Sept. 3.—L. H.
Braddock, a.farmer living seven
miles from Millen, heard shots
to-night about 9:30 at the home of
a neighbor, Mrs. Belle Newton,
and hastened to the house to in
vestigate. Entering the Newton
home, Mr. Braddock was horri
fied to discover the dead body of
Mrs. Newton on the floor and
near the house the body of Ru
fus Bryant, a Jenkins County
bailiff. Both were dead. The
supposition is that Bryant killed
the woman and th^n turned the
pistol on himself. Both were in
middle age.
No particulars could be obtain
ed here to-night as to the dual
tragedy, but it is probable that
the coroner’s investigation to
morrow will throw light on the
affair.
