We,regret to say that our good
friend Mrs. J. L. Poulk is critically
ill. Miss Annie is everybody’s
friend and those of us who know
her miss ^ler hearty laugh and
friendly handclasp more than we
can. express.
Mr. Arthur Bell is in' Atlanta
taking a business course at the
Southern Shorthand and Business
University. Guess he will find it
convenient to take in some of
those games of league ball while up
there.
Mr. Albert Trulock who recently
underwent a surgical operation for
appendicitis in Borne, Ga., we are
' glad to report is much better. His
friends are delighted to note his
presence in our little city.
Miss Janie Bell left some days
ago for a summer course at the
State Normal College at Athens.
Mr. II. H. Brandon, of Thotnns-
ville was transacting business in
Cairo Wednesday.
Misses Williliwis Maxwell and
Kate Morgan returned to . their
home in Columbus, Ga., last Fri
day-morning after a short visit to
Mrs. W. II. Searcy.
• Miss Virginia Merritt of Pelham
is visiting 1 Mrs. H. B. Sutton.
J. E. Hall, while in Columbus,

Miss Susie Maxwell who has

ing a collcgc course at Valparaiso
Ind,, .and has accepted the position
of assistant pay master at the Bibb
Mills-of that place, one of the larg
est .cotton mills.of the south.

Miss Nell Melton, of Conyers,
Ga., is the churming visitor of Mrs.
Leslie Powell, and Mias Lucy Bell.
Miss Alma Hurst,, after an ex
tended visit, to relatives and friends
in Alabama, bus returned home to
the delight of her friends.'
Mr. P. M. Baggett who was
called to Atlanta a few days on
account of the critical illness'of
his brother, Dr. Lcland G. Baggett
has returned home and reports Dr.
Baggett as somewhat improved.
He was taken very suddenly ill
last Thursday night and was car
ried at once to Grady Hospital for
treatment. His physicians, now
consider that lie has passed the
erisits in his condition and that his
improvement will be steady though
slow.
The many friends of Mr: C. R.
Beale will regret to learn that lie is
soon to move from, us, although
they arc glad to know that he is
going to a splendid business open
ing in Florida. About' the 1st of
August he will go to St. Augustine,
Fla., where he will be associated
with another ns sales representa
tive of the Ford M.otor Car's. Mr.
Beale for the lust several months
has been in charge for the State
Veterinary Department of the cat
tle dipping work in this county.
He has been doing some most effic
ient work and it is much to be re-
regretted that lie feels compelled
for business reasons to give up this
work.

young ladies of Thomasvillc, will
give a Recital Friday evening-July

ditorium.

benefit of the W. C. T. U., P art'd
will include violin, piano and Vocal
selections, assisted by local talent.

On last Tuesday evening John
Henry Muxwell delightfully enter
tained the members of the young
er set with a party in honor of Miss
Margaret Wright.
After the guests hud ull arrived
an advertising contest was enguged
in, Mr. Clifford Bell, wiuning the
booby prize which afforded much
merriment for the entire crowd.
Progressive conversation was
then played until a late hour, when
the guests were invited to the Cen
tral Drug Store where delicious
cream and cake were served in a
most delightful manner. From
here the guests departed voting
their young host many thanks.

In a closely contested game,
Cairo won from Quincy Thursday l|

This gives Cairo three out. of
