An Appreciation
"Big” is a word I like, and Itig
fitly describes this friend of mine
who has “gone away.” Big in
body, big in heart, big in brain. I
fail to recall, us 1 think of the as
sociation 1 had with him, one single
thing that might cause one to think
of hint as other than big and whole
some a n d aggressive. Mack
Glower belonged to Cairo; for in
the days of his boyhood, when it.
was my privilege to know him, he
lived himself into the life of the
town. No one who knew Cairo in
those days but that knew Mack
Clower, and to know him was to
be his friend. Always running
over with good humor and a love
for fun, his pranks became noted,
but never feared. Almost every
one can recall some of the incidents
in which his exuberant personality
figured. In school Mack was al
ways a dominant figure. Maybe
not always a very diligent student,
yet, by the veratility of his mind,
he was never discomfited at recita
tion time.
Since early manhood Mack has
not resided in Cairo and I knew
less of him. . Going to Florida find
entering business in which he.
achieved signal success, he only
occasionally visited Cairo, but no
one of his friends who felt that
massive nnd warm hand clasp and
caught that genial smile of his is
likely soon to forget the pleasure
of these occasional meetings.
He is gone from us. Princely
fellow, strong and stalwart—he
has fallen ere the prime of life is
dawned. We seek not to unravel
the unscrutable ways of Provi-
denc. We mourn a friend depart
ed and add our tribute to a big
manly life that in going has left a
void in many hearts.

IDEAS OF A PLAIN MAN
Br Dr. FRANK CRANE
I wish to speak of a very dear friend ivho has been
good to me and every day has added to the happiness of
. my life. It Is bed.
I have a perfect bed, for which I do not neglect to give
■ thanks to God in my prayers. It is not bumpy as some
are; it is not too soft nor too hard, but just right, meeting
my body lovingly, with tael and tenderness. It is a most
friendly, intelligent and appreciative Bed.
There are some who, ind superior wag, affect to scorn
the'creature comforts,.regarding bodily pleasures as low
and in a manner shameful. I used to do this myself,
but have gotten more sense. What is good is good, wheth
er, for -soul or body. And I think a man comes nearer
living as his Creator intended if he accepts and tries f id
ly to enjoy what good bodily joys corns his way, if so be
he docs not harm other people and exercise temperances.
