Cairo, Thomas County, Georgia, February 13, 1QQ4.
OUR WHIGHAM DEPARTMENT.
The Messenger to Run a Portion
of It’s Pages for Our Sister
Town.
Beginning next week the Mes
senger will devote a couple of
it’s pages to giving the news of
the city of Whigham. We are
now making arrangements to
enlarge the paper so as to have
room for this purpose. A good
correspondent has been secured,
and the news of the week as it
occurs will appear in each issue.
Aud in addition to other
things the Messenger will use
every opportunity to push the
intdrests of the little city in its
department. Of course we will
ask for business from the cit
izens of the town—that’s wbat
we are in the publishing business
for, and we will appreciate the
support of Whigham people.
As the department grows older
we feel sure it will grow better,
A Fine Otter Hide.
The hide of the otter recently
killed by Mr. J. B. Crawford on
the river was sold to Mauldin
Bros, yesterday for the neat sum
of $11.00. The skin measured
56 inches in length and io£
inches across the back. Our
genial postmaster, who by the
way is a noted follower of Wal
ton, received a right handsome
return for his day’s fishing.
Hon. John R. Singletary.
In another column appears
the announcement of Hon. John
R. Singletary as a candidate for
re-election to the House of Rep
resentatives. Mr. Singletary has
served one term in this capacity
and has a clean record as a con
scientious public servant. He
is a resident of Cairo and has a
host of strong friends in that
part of the county, and else
where also. He is a lawyer of
standing in his community and
as has been said is an exper
ienced legislator. His claims
are worthy of careful consider
ation and should anvone oppose
him, they will find him a hard
man to defeat.—Times-Enter
prise.
Col. O’Neal Announces.
We direct our readers’ atten
tion to the announcement of
Col. M. E- O’Neal which appears
in this issue. He is a candi
date for Solicitor of the Bam
bridge City court. Popular,
biainy and talented to a remark
able degree and eminently quali
fied for the place, there can be
no question as to his putting up
warm fight for the nomination.
Announcement Fees.
The Messenger has had in
quiry concerning its charges for
the announcements of candi
