HISTORY OF THE COACH.
First t>f These Vehicles Built in 1457
.
As popular as coaching is in some
parts of the country but little reliable ■
information has ever appeared in the j
public press respecting its history j
Kotze and development. in Hungary, in At the town of I j
1457, the first
coach was constructed. This was
soon afterward presented to Charles
VII, at Paris. The first authentic rec
ord of a stage coach in England
show's that six of such vehicles were
in use there in 1CG2. So popular did
they become in that country that a j
few r years later they w’ere in genera!
use on all the principal roads of the
kingdom.
Steam railways have, to a large ex
tent, done away with the use of*the
eoacJi as a link in the commercial
chain, but as a means of furnishing
the highest type of recreation., the
coach and four is as popular to-day in
the British Empire and Prance as it
wus when this was practically the only
means of locomotion in those coun
tries.
Stage coaching in America was al
seiost co-extensive with the settlement
f tory the of colonics, the country and in there the were early few his
any p] aceS; of any importance, that
did not welcome the sound of the
coachman’s horn -as one of the fas
cinating incidents of pioneer life. As
civilization pushed itself westward,
(he stage coach was ever in the lead
of those agencies which blazed its
pathway. These vehicles, as well as
their equipments, were comparatively
crude in their construction, and un- (
pretentious .. in . ... their . appointments, . . , but , , ,
they admirably served the purpose for *
which they were intended and laid the |
foundation'for the popularity of coach
ing as a pleasurable pastime devel
oped in labor years.
Coaching parties had been popular
in England and France for several gen
erations before they were introduced
in this country yet the sport is so
wholesome and enjoyable that it can
not be doubted that in time it will be- >1
come as popular here as it is across
the Atlantic.— Illustrated Sporting

ME. AND MES. J. 0.
"My wife had been suffering from a com
plication of diseases for the past 25 years.
“Her case had baffled the skill of some
©f the most noted physicians. One of her
worst troubles was chronic constipation oi
several years’ standing.
“She also was passing through that most
'critical period in the life of a woman—
change of life. In June, 1895, I wrote to
you about her ease. You advised a course
of Peruna and Manalin, which we at once
commenced, and have to say it completely she
cured her. She firmly believes that
would have been dead only for these won
derful, remedies.
“About the same time I wrote you about
my own case of catarrh, which had been of
25 years’ standing. At times 1 was almost
past going. I commenced to use Peruna
according to your instructions and contin
ued its use for about a year, and it has
completely cured me.
•. Your remedies do all that you
cla im for them, and even more. Ca
tarrh cannot exist where Peruna is
taken according to directions, Sue

Atkinson says, after live years’ experience
with Peruna:
“I will ever continue to speak a

When old age comes on catarrhal dis
eases come also. Systemic catarrh is al
most universal in old people.
This explains why Peruna has become so
indispensable their safeguard. to old people. Peruna is
Peruna is the only rem

actly.
Such cases cannot be treated locally;
nothing but an effective systemic remedy
could cure them. This is exactly what Pe
