Superior Court in Session.
Judge Mitchell convened the
April term of Thomas
court at Thomasville Monday/
The greater part of this we/k
has been devoted to a land case
of Nelson vs Miller over a tifict
of land at Coolidge. clearedlthis The </ivil
docket will likely be
week and the criminal case^ tak
en up next week, The grand
jury has been quite busy) and
has returned several bills,Ao we
learn. A full account f all
criminal cases tried at th(3 term
will appear in our next week’s
issue.
Judge Barrow Resigns.
Judge J. N. Barrow has resign-;
ea from the office of Notary!
Public of the 753rd district. 1
His resignation was handed in
to Ordinary Jones Monday.
Judge Barrow has filled the of
fice during his incumbancy cbly
and well and has tried to admin-)
ister justice in an equitable man- j
ner to all parties litigant in his
court, and has made many friends
who regret to know that old age
and personal interests force him
to resign.
We learn that a petition has
been sent by the business men
here to the grand jury asking
that they recommend Mr. James
E. Hurst for appointment to the
office. Mr. Hurst is well quali
fied for the place and his ap
pointment, (which will no doubt
be made) will give general satis
faction.
Polls Not Opened.
There was nojprimary election
held at this voting precinct
Wednesday, state or other kind.
Not once during the day were
the polls opened in order that
ond might vote, and that’s not
all—no one seemed to worry.
Judge Barrow only returned on
the noon train from a trip to
Boston and was too late to open
them up. As we see it, there
were no arrangements made to
pay for holding the election and
we glory in the spunk of people
who refuse to do this kind of
work gratis, So there was no
primary in Cairo—that’s a fact.
Protracted Meeting Closed.
The protracted meeting at
the Methodist church which
has been in progress for the
past three weeks was brought
to a close last night.
The ministers have been very
faithful in their efforts during
this meeting and many earnest
and eloquent sermons
delivered.
While there were no new ac
quisitions to the church at the
time of going to press, yet the
meeting h a s unquestionably
been of great good to the whole
people of the town, members of
the church or otherwise.
Rev. Budd left for his home
at Blakely yesterday, While
here he has endeared himself to
all by his eloquent and forceful
preaching, and will always be
kindly remembered.
To the local pastor, R.ev. Re
viere, the appreciation of the
entire membership of his church
should be extended for three
weeks of as earnest, faithful
work as it has ever been our
pleasure to witness. Let it be
hoped that the effects of the
meeting may live long and grow
greater as they live,
Mrs. J. L. Overstreet, of Kis
simmee, Fla., is the guest of her
sister Mrs. J. M. Poulk.
