The Messenger is glad indeed
to note that the grand jury rec
ommended in their general pre
sentments that the County Com
missioners make the necessary
arrangements for working the
convicts upon the public roads
of the county, This is a step in
the right direction and we hope
to see the matter of better roads
pushed ahead incessantly until
no county in the state can sur
pass Thomas.
In speaking of its thirtieth
anniversary, the Darien Gazette
says: 4 4 Thirty years ago today
the first issue of the Darien Ga
zette appeared, lt was started
by the present proprietor and he
is still in charge.”
What a record. Thirty years
of perpetual grind, dav in
and day out, usual upon a week
lv newspaper, For thirty years
placing the eypus wreaths and
handing the orange blossoms al
ternately as the scenes and occa
sions arise, a smile of good cheer
here and a tear of sympathy
there, hailing with delight the
new-born and praising the de
parted, cursing the delinquent
and boosting the paying candi
date, What a life to live, for
thirty years!
Right along here at planting
time is the proper time to drop
a word to our farmers concern
ing the growing of some pro
duct for exhibition at the State
Fair this fall. It is not only pos
sible, but highly probable, that
Thomas county -will make an ex
hibit and now—the present time
— IS when the preparations
should be made and the plant
producing the particular product
to be exhibited should be nur
tured and tended^ so that it will
produce 10 its fullest possible
capacity, And where several
take up different products and
push their growth this way, a
very creditable county exhibit
can be arranged without a great
amount of trouble, Prepare
something for the State Pair
and show the world what 1 hotn
as county hands can do.
An exchange says: The wind
bloweth and the subscribers
oweth, and the Lord knoweth
that we are in need of our dues.
So come a-running, for we are
not funning. This thing of dun
ning gives us the blues.
xln exchange says an old gen

the engagement between his
daughter and a young man be
cause the young man led

see where the old man is muD
to be blamed.
Post master J. B. Crawford
has been on the sick list this
week. While his friendsjare all
sorry to note his indisposition,
there is no doubt but what® the

There 's a new song going'
the rounds of the press, which j
runs as follows: 44 We don’t j

At Dexter, Mrs. R. R. Bel

Best Cough Medicine for Children.
When you buy a cough medicine for
small children you want one in which you
can place implicit confidence. You want
one that not only relieves but cures.
You want one that is unquestionably
harmless. You want one that is pleasant
to take. Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy
meets all of these conditions. There
nothing so good for the coughs and colds
incident to childhood. It is also a certain
preventive and cure for croup, and there
is 110 danger whatever from
cough when it is given. It has been
in many epidemics of that disease
perfect success. For sale by Wight
Browne.
