Cotton is coming in lively this week,
and why not, when our merchants are
paying tip top prices and selling goods
cheaper than can be had anywhere else.

We want to correct a typographical
error in last week’s locals from Whig
ham. In saying not listan to smallpox
talk there hadn’t been a case in all this
section since Mr. Farnell’s death. It
came out Terrell and not Farnell. We
regret these errors in names.
Whigham had the heaviest rain Wed
nesday afternoon that has fallen in many
years, We might say it was a cloud
burst, No damage more than streets
washed out.
Died —Mrs. Gordon McElvy and little

the fond mother too must pass away and
the baby was kept out. At 2 o’clock
Wednesday the mother died and both
were put in the same casket.
Mrs. McElvy was the second daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Brownlee of Whigham,
was born in Abbeville, Co., S. C., and
was married two years ago to Mr. G. B.
McElvy, and was a consistant member
of the Baptist church.
How sad that the death angel claimed
the sweet little boy who was sick only a
few days, then the fond mother was call

for the baby just before she passed away
aud it was gently laid in her arms, she

draped with the choicest of flowers. The
loving mother and beautifnl little babe

It’s sad to give then up, but how sweet
to know their souls’ no sorrows know.
