The Catoosa Springs, near Chattanooga,

with a grand ball last Tnesdny evening,
which is said to have been a most brilliant
affair. We return thanks to Mr. John E.
Poole, the clever manager, for an invitation
to attend.
From a private letter, addressed to a gen
tleman in this plnce, we learn that, last

lives about four miles from this pluce, made
a mistake that came near costing him his
life. He was searching among several bot

to administer to a sick member of bit house
hold, and unfortunately came across a long
forgotten bottle of corrosive sublimate. It
had no label, and not knowing its contents

Cotton blooms are becoming plentiful
now. The first that we have seen was *x
bibited by Mr J. A Johnson, who invaded
our dormitory lust Monday morning and
roused us from pleasant dreams that we
might gaze on the “first of the season.” We
had just turned over, with the intention of
finishing our nap, when Phil Roberts, of
Lwvejoy, came blundering in with another.
Phil is a worthy colored man, and good
farmer. In about an hour Mr. William
Quick, of Fayette county, brought still an
other, and said he could have brought it a
day earlier. In about two months we hope
to see a bale of new cotton.

Tax match game of Base Ball yesterday
excited more interest in this community than
a Presidential election, and was witnessed
by a large and enthusiastic crowd, of both
sexes. The game was called at 17 minutes
past 4, and lasted two boors and a half. We
should like to make special mention of the
fine playing of several gentlemen engaged in
the contest, but tbe lateness of the boor for

The public road between McDonough and
