Mon and boys of the west endt of
town have been having a harvest
during the past three or four days
■catching fish at Rempel’s and White’s
ponds, west of town. During the
past summer, on account of the light
rainfall, the water In these two :
ponds was very low; and in fact,
for the past three months there has
been no outlet from either pond.
When the freezing water of the
past ten days came ice soon formed,
and, covering every air hole, caused
the fish to come beneath the ice in
hopes of getting air. The boys who
first tested the breaking qualities of
the ice in hopes of being the first to
skate were the ones to discover the
predicament 'g? the fish.
The news soon spread, 'and last
Friday and. Saturday 100 men and
hoys were busily engaged hi securing
fresh fish for the table. Hatchets
find axes were used as the death-deal
ing implements, and when a school
of fish were sighted beneath, the ice
was struck a hard blow. The fish
were stunned. A hole was then
chopped through the ice and the fish
•secured. Several hundred pounds of
fish were scoured, the majority of
them being carp.—‘Logan (Ohio)

“ Dear Mrs. Pinkjeiam : I have
never before given my endorsement
for any medicine, but Lydia E.
Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound
has added so much to my life and
happiness that I feel like making an
exception in this case. For two years
every month I would have two days of
severe pain, and could find no relief, but
one day when visiting a friend I ran
across Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vege
table Compound, she had used
it with the best results and advised
me to try it. I found that it worked
wonders with me ; I now experience
no pain, and only had to use a few
bottles to bring about this wonderful
change. I use it occasionally now
when I am exceptionally tired or worn
out.” — Miss Alice M. Smith, 804 Third

There was suffering among the poor
and many of the homeless applied at
the police stations for shelter. Only
one death .that of a fisherman, has
been reported so far. The weather
bureau observer says It is possible
that the mercury may go to 20 de

will last sev.eral days.
At Duluth, Mian., It was 37 below
at one time, and the (c&ldest with one
exception since lgfiU
Bismarck reported 28, and Supe
rior, Wis., 30 below.
In a number of places in the north

tne year.
A severe blizzard raged at Hough
ton, Mich., trains being late and traf
fic badly impeded.
According to the weather observer
at St. Paul, Minn., the mean tempera
ture prevailing in that city establish
ed a new record, being 27 degrees be
low zero. The maximum for the day
was minus 22 degrees and the mini
mum on the official tnermometer was
33 below. The observer predicted that
at least 35 would be recorded, and
held out but little hope for an allevia
tion of the cold weather. A high
wind prevailed early in the day,
greatly intensifying the suffering of
those compelled to be out of doors,
but Sunday night the wind abated.

DR. LLEWELLYN JORDAN, Medical
Examiner of the U. S. Treasury De

Las the following to say of Peruna:
“Allow wie to express my grati
tude to you for the benefit derived
from your wonderful remedy. One
short month has brought forth a
vast change and 1 now consider
myself a well man alter months of
suffering. Icllow sufferers, Peruna
will cure you.”
A constantly increasing number of physi
cians prescribe Peruna in their practice. It
has proven its merits so thoroughly that
even the doctors have overcome their preju
dice against so-called patent medicines and
recommend it to their patients.
Peruna occupies a unique position in
medical science. It is the only internal
systemic catarrh remedy known to the
medical profession to-day. Catarrh, as
every one will admit, is the cause of one
half the disease which afflicts mankind.
Catarrh and catarrhal diseases afflict one
half of the people of United States.
Robert R. Roberts, M. D., Washing
ton, D. C., writes:
“Through my own experience
as well as that of many of my
friends and acquaintances who
have been cured or relieved of
catarrh by the use of Hartman's
Peruna, 1 can confidently recom
mend it to Ihosn suffering from
such disorders, and have no hesi
tation in prescribing it to my pa
tients.” -Robert It. Roberts.
Dr. R. Robbins, Muskogee, I. T., writes:
“Peruna is the best medicine I know of
for coughs and to strengthen a weak stom
ach and to give appetite. Besides prescrib
ing it for catarrh, I have ordered it for
weak and debilitated people, and have not
had a patient but said it helped him. It is
an excellent medicine and it fits so many
cases.
“I have a large practice, and have a
chance to prescribe your Peruna. I hope
you may five long to do good to the sick
and the suffering.”
Dr. M. 0. Gee writes from 513 Jones St.,
San Francisco, Cal.:
“Peruna has performed so many wonder
ful cures in San Francisco that I am con
vinced that it is a valuable remedy. I
have frequently advised its use for women,

Catarrh is a systemic disease curable
only by systemic treatment. A remedy that
cures catarrh must aim directly at the de
pressed nerve centres. This is what Pe

Peruna immediately invigorates the nerve
centres which give vitality to the mucous

Then catarrh is permanently cured.
