Ga., on business occupations for (be year

the same, licensing said occupation and
professions. the
Seciion 1. Be it ordained by
Mayor and Council of the city of Cov¬
ington, and it is hereby ordained by the
authority of the same, that upon every
person, partnership, or coiporation ex
ereusing within said city during the year

ing occupations or professions the fol¬
lowing specific tax shrtd! be levied and
collected, said tax to be due and paya¬

this ordinance shall be a registered tax
and due and payable on the first day of Jan.
of each year bv residents subject to the
tax and by alt others who may come into
the City and be subject to said tax befor
engaging in the business or occupation re-*
quiring the payment of tax or license un¬
der this Ordinance.
43. All licenses issued under this Or¬
dinance shall expire December 31st of
the year of issuance.
44 For any business not specified and
enumerated herein but covered by the
spirit ar.d intention hereof there shall be
paid a license or occupation tax of not
less than One Dollar or more than One
Hundred Dollars in tke discretion of the
Mayor.
45 No person subject to the provis¬
ions of this ordinance shall be permitted
to do business in the City of Covington
without first procuring license or paying
tax as herein provided for.
46 All persons, firms or corporations
now resident in said City and engaged
in any business subject to the provisions of
this ordinance and all others who may come
into the City for the purpose of engaging
;n business, subject to the provisions of
this Ordinance are hereby required to ap¬
ply to t.he Tax Collector of said City and
procure from the same before further con¬
tinuing or commencing said business a
license as provided for in this section and
upon failure to do so such person or cor¬
poration upon conviction shall be fined
as provided in the penal Ordinances »f
this city, and in addttion thereto the Tax
Collector of city shall issue a fi fa for
the amount of such lincense or occupa¬
tion tax due—basing the issuance of the
same upon the affidavit of the Marshal of
the City, wfio shall to the best of his
knowledge and belief make affidavit as to
the character, business and extent of the
person or firm subject to such tax and
such affidavit shall be filed with the said
Tax Collector and the fi fa issued thereup¬
on shall be placed in the hands of the
Marshal or his Deputy of said City for col¬
lection; and the same shall be collected
as any other fi fa for taxes as provided bj
the Charter and Ordinances ot the City.
See. 47 The tees due to the City in such
fi fas shall be as follows:

Sue. 48 All Ordinances, or parts of Ordi¬
nances in conflict with this Ordinance or
any part hereof are hereby repealed.
The foiegoing Ordinances were regularly
passed at the meeting of the Mayor and
City Council in their regular session held on
the first Tuesday night in February 1909.
