R. L. Cousins Band Rated
Superior At State Festival
On Saturday morning, April
30, 1966, the members of the
R. L. Cousins 76-piece concert
band gathered at the school to
make the eagerly anticipated trip
to Savannah State College, Sav
annah, to participate in the State
Band Festival.
Anticipation, determination,
and hope were the abstractions
that dominated the mindsofthese
lovers of music as they pon
dered over their task for it was
only sixteen days before that
they had received superior rat
ings at the District Band Fes
tival in Conyers.
The London Symphony, by Hay

Nabucco by Verdi, a more ro
bust and majestic number are
the two numbers the group pre

After having performed the
numbers, the members, inwardly
satisfied that they had whole

heartedly detached their minds
from all but their job of per

rating sheets.
The band’s dedicated direc
tor, Mr. T. K. Adams, whose
motto has always been, "results,
not excuses,” along with the
members of the band, rejoiced
when they carefully examined
their rating sheets and found
that their over-all rating from
adjudicators’ Gill, of Savannah
State College, John Bradley, for
mer band director at Statesboro,
and D. M. Barr, music Super
visor, Brunswick, was superior.
Their hearts were filled with
sincere gratitude for although
their ratings for five consecutive
years have been Superior, they
realized that their challenges
too were, ever more superior.
Mr. Bradleys compliments of
"Excellent woodwind and per
cussion sections,” "a superb
performance,” and "Excellent
intonation” will be imprinted on
the minds of Mr. Adams and the
band members as an incentive to
start the next musical year.
