Visitors from near and far enjoyed
walking the shady track at Benson Hilley
Park in Williamson during the Wisteria
Festival. There was something for every
one with rides for kids, live music all day
and vendors with all sorts of items. See

implemented and
proves successful, it

up that part of town to
an economic boom of
development. The initial
planned budget does
include parking, provid
ing for both current and
future needs. Walter
closed his remarks with
the assessment that if
the city looked into a
similar venture using
raw land, if property
was available in that
area, it would cost $3
million.
Council also expedit
ed the closing of a pend
ing USDA loan/grant
and to initiate activity
for the anticipated Pike
County Water Planning
project.
COUNCIL ALSO:

reading of the ordinance
of annexation and zoning
of the water plant prop
erty with no changes.
Approval of the ordi
nance passed, effective
date March 25, 2021.

and final adoption is set
for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday,
May 25.
All budget meetings
will be held in the main
courtroom.

the J. Joel Edwards Public Library in Zebulon. They joined young readers from across the U.S.
Students Read Across America
Throughout the
month of March, the
J. Joel Edwards Public
Library hosted its first
annual Read Across
America Challenge. To
celebrate Read Across
America month, children
throughout Pike County
were invited to pick up a
reading log at the library
and keep track of their
reading time throughout
the entire month with a
goal of 15 hours.
Once hours were
logged at home, partici
pants were encouraged
to re-visit the library,
have their reading time
recorded and receive
Seuss-inspired prizes as
well as a brand-new book
to add to their shelves.
The library will continue
to offer opportunities
for students ages 0-18
to win prizes for their
time spent reading with
the Summer Reading

Program beginning on
June 1.
Other programs at the
library include virtual
story times for a variety
of age groups, a virtual
cooking class for kids
on the third Saturday
of each month, and free
Take-and-Make craft kits
that are available the first
and third Wednesdays of
each month.

The Pike County Board of Commissioners will be presented the recommended Fiscal Year 2021-
2022 budget during its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
Public Hearing will be held on April 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. The public is invited to participate. Public
Hearings will be held for the first reading on May 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., second reading on May 20, 2021
at 6:30 p.m. and Final Adoption of the Budget on third reading is scheduled for May 25, 2021 at 5:30
p.m.
Copies of the DRAFT FY 2021-2022 Budget will be available at the J. Joel Edwards Public Library at
585 Highway 19 South and the Commissioners Office at 331 Thomaston St, Zebulon, GA.
