Library keeps kids learning
The staff at the J.
Joel Edwards Public
Library are encourag
ing students to read
and engaging their
minds during weekly
programs for all ages.
For kids 5 to 12, the
library is hosting
weekly programs at
the Zebulon City Park
pavilion, including
storytelling with Pike’s
Anthony Vinson, a live
reading/performance
of The Wonky Donkey
by students, unicorn
rides and a visit from
local law enforcement
officers Lt. James Fox
and deputy Casey
Hammond as well as
K-9 officers Ben and
Buster. Buster excels
at tracking, while Ben
prefers to “apprehend
and detain.”

Students took part in the telling of the Wonky Donkey story recently at the J. Joel Edwards Public
Library’s Summer Reading Club, including (l-r) Lily McDaniel, Elliana Cutler and Trent Luce.
The Wonky Donkey made an appearance at a Summer Read
ing Club program thanks to the Hagin family.
Pike’s Anthony Vinson keeps Summer Reading Club participants enthralled as he tells them real life - or not so real - stories.
Pictured are (l-r) Jase Stone, a mom, Tessa Stone, Brady Wyatt, Finlee McEntyre and Tucker Bennett.
Buster the K-9 enjoyed his visit with Summer Reading Club
participants, along with his handler deputy Casey Hammond.

Callista hopes to
move to Nashville
eventually and will un-
doubtably carry with
her the sense of com
munity and hometown
values she has learned
in Pike County. She will
always carry with her
the musical skills she
learned while living
in Zebulon. At just 17,
she has taught herself
to play ukulele, acous
tic guitar, piano, bass,
electric guitar, banjo
and mandolin and she
is currently learning
keytar, a combination
keyboard-guitar.
“1 think I’m so ready
for all of this. 1 am
beyond excited about
everything happen

have live shows again.
And my song’s been on
the radio, and people
are going to know it
and sing it back to
me, which is crazy.
Yeah, everything’s just
happening, and I’m so
thankful for it.”
For now she will
continue to call Ze
bulon her home and
enjoy her family, the
beautiful outdoors,
leading the songs at
the church her grand
father pastors, hunting
for her next fun fashion
statement in nearby
thrift stores and teach
ing herself how to play
yet another musical
instrument.
