Keeping up with the
times is vital for a city to
not only survive, but to
grow and prosper. The
city of Concord, inspired
by recent developments,
announced plans at the
Sept. 21 council meet
ing to upgrade certain
aspects of the 114 year
old historic Strickland
building. Using the
wireless fidelity feature
of the current internet
service, the facility will
be equipped with 21st
century technology.
Mayor John Strickland
shared the genesis of the
project with the wireless
internet update.
“The city currently
has 40 internet custom
ers, with a couple more
anticipated this week,”
said Strickland. “A small
tower was installed at
the edge of the park to
serve Roseview Drive. A
[fiber optic] line broke
recently near an AT&T
crew work zone but no
attempt was made to
determine cause since
the break resulted in
little disruption. And a
lightning strike took out
two antennas.”
Ongoing progress is
being made to expand
service. According to
Strickland, an antenna
was attached to the
pavilion to serve Rob
erts Quarters Road and
Concord Estates. Both
current and future tow
ers will benefit growth
to reach GA Highway
18 west residents and
new Hilltop customers.
For Concord Wireless
Internet, its guarantee
of excellence is a famil
iar adage: “If it’s worth
doing, it’s worth doing
right.”
Deputy city clerk
Anita Neath followed the
internet update with a
description of projects
for the Strickland build
ing.
“Already this month,
the Strickland building
was a busy place,” said
Neath. “The Republicans
met twice and SlowEx-
posures occupied the
building for nine days.
New thermostats were
installed controlled by
wireless fidelity tech
nology. This will level
out the utility cost year
round. With the current
system, a Wl-Fl security
device will be enabled to
contact the fire depart
ment during an emergen
cy. Central Safe & Lock
is installing new keyless
locks which use digital
access codes. A special
Strickland building to-do
list has been created for
maintenance and repairs
such as rebuilding the
loading dock ramp.”
The next big event for
the Strickland building
will be at the Concord
Country Jubilee October
16 and 17. Red Clay Min
istries will occupy the
facility to offer a variety
of activities for the pub
lic as a fundraiser for
their outreach of various
community services.
