ON THE AN CIENT PATH
Are we really content?
BY BEVERLY BRISENDINE
beverly.brisendine@gmail.com
I have
been pon
dering what
a blessed
woman 1
really am.
Sometimes
we over
look the
precious things which
surround us each day: a
warm comfortable bed,
delicious coffee with
Hazelnut creamer, a sea
soned recliner, hot water
showers, a woodburning
stove, air condition
ing, large swings in the
backyard, multiple birds
feeding at the kitchen
windows, beautiful
sunsets, warm sweaters
and jackets, a purring cat
in my lap, cheese grits
and bacon, a washer and
dryer and dishwasher
that work, my well worn
Bible, six beautiful and
healthy grandchildren,
so many wonderful
friends, a precious sister,
a sweet husband that
has provided abundantly,
geese on the pond, deer
in the woods, chocolate
chip cookies, and so
much more.
1 am so content but
what if all of this was
taken from me? What if
someone came to my
door and took me away
in handcuffs never to be
seen again. How content
would I be then? There
was one who said he had
learned to be content
in whatsoever state he
found himself. That was
written by Paul in a Ro
man dungeon. Read it in
Phil.4:11.
Paul was content
regardless and in spite
of his surroundings.
Why? Paul had a true
relationship with the
Lord Jesus Christ who
walked and talked with
Paul wherever he was
in every situation and
guided his every step.
Our contentment and
peace must run deeper
than our surroundings
and circumstances.
Therefore, it must come
from the changeless One
who loves us and is ever
present in our lives.
Let us be people of
gratitude and thanksgiv
ing for the least little
blessing and we will find
ourselves overtaken with
His joy and peace.
