Fire last flight.
Fire last night, which
was discovered about 12 o’
clock, destroyed the barn and
stables of Ur. W. W. McCulley,
in rear of his house on the cor
ner of Frances and McDonald
streets The residence is occu
pied by O. J. Allen and family,
and .when the inmates of the
house, were aroused, the barn
was burning fiercely. A fire
alarm was sent in, and Chief
Singleton and his men were
soon on the scene and had two
streams of water playing on the
burning building. The barn of
Mr. 6. U. Archer, just across
th& lane^wasin great-danger^ The Herald hopes that' with
and caught once, bat was soon
extinguished before any damage
of consequence was done. The
fire in the barn and stables of
Ur. McCulley bad gained such
headway before discovered that
it was impossible to save them,
and they were burned to the
ground, entailing a loss of about
$200 with no insurance, so far
as we have been able to learn.
The cause of the fire is unknown,
though it is thought to have
been of incendiary origin. But
for the prompt arrival and effec
tive work of the fire laddies,
the splendid MoOulley house
would undoubtedly have been
destroyed.
Bis Object a Mystery.
Last night shortly before 11
o'clock, an unknown party made
his exit from Ur. E. H. Craw*
ley’s Crystal Shaving Parlor,
which had been closed for the
night, by breaking out the glass
in one of the double doors in
front The fellow, who was
seen by several parties to jump
through the opening In the door,
quickly disappeared around be
tween the Southern hotel and
0- W. Parker’s store. A close
investigation of the place re
vealed the fact that nothing
had been stolen.. Supposition by
some is that the fellow secreted
himselfin the building before it
was closed, but for wbat object
no one is able to say, as nothing
bad been molested.
