DR. LANDRUM WRITES ON
DANGER TO PROHIBITION LAW.
In his recent address to the Anti-
Saloon League at Atlanta, Dr. Land
rum said in part:
Now listen!
If Hoke Smith Is re-elected the
change of our voting system from the
county unit plan to the popular vote
plan, for which he is responsible and
for which he now stands, will be en
dorsed and fixed upon us.
Our prohibition candidate for gov
ernor will face the desperate fact that
six counties with larger cities where
the whiskey forces predominate will
bo able under Hoke Smith’s reform
cf our voting system to outvote more
than forty rural counties in Georgia
where the prohibition strength lies.
This ig not fancy. It is fact. It
is such a fact that long-headed prohi
bitionists are blind indeed if they do
not see it. The real peril to the per
manency of the Georgia prohibition
law is as clear as noonday to a
who thinks a minute. It is this un
fortunate change of our voting sys
tem by Hoke 3mltfj that stares us In
the face. It will be seen three years
from now’*—when it is too late.
If Joseph ,M. Brown is elected he
stands pledged to give us back our
county unit system, which reduces the
big whiskey counties to equality
the rural counties.
If Hoke Smith Is elected the tre-
menduous disadvantage of the rural
counties will be Confirmed and fixed
upon us. The man who cannot «e*
this now will certainly aee it later.
Prohibition leaders would better see
it now.

Waycross, Ga., May 6.
To The White Voters of Ware County:
My candidacy for the office of Judge
of the City Court of Waycross was
announced several months ago, and
until recently I have had no opposition
in the race.
T am at present the Solicitor of the
City Court of Waycross, acting under
appointment to till the vacancy caused
by the death of the late J. Walter
Bednett, and my successor as Solici
tor will be elected in October next, and
I will then retire as Solicitor of the
City Court. Although the Judge of
the City Court is to be nominated at
the approaching June Primary, and
elected in the October election, he
will not qualify or assume the duties
of the office until Jan. 1st, 1910, be
cause Judge Myers’ term does not ex
pire until then.
This is the first time in my life I
have ever been a candidate before you
for an office, and if elected, as I hope
to be, I shall before assuming the
duties as Judge retire from any and
all practice, for any and all clients,
that would in the slightest sense dis
qualify, militate, or be in the way oi
my devoting my time and attentiotf
to the duties of the office.
J promise, if elected, to discharge
the duties of thlR important office,
faithfully, impartially, and to the best
interest of the County and people
generally.
I may not be able to see and talk to
every voter in person before the day
of the Primary, but I wish to state,
however, to all voters, that whether
I see you In person or not and solicit
your vote, I will appreciate profound
ly both your vote and influence In my
behalf at the Primary on June 4th
next, and I promise you that if I am
nominated and elected, I will endeavor
to conduct the Ccuit !n a manner that
shall be above crltfci&n, and try in
every way to make the £curt a credit
to the County.
Very respectfully. I

Rome, May 5.—Prince DeSagnn and
Madame Anna Gould left for Florence
today. The rumor is current that
they have arranged to bo married
there by a civil and Protestant cere

taken to mean that the couple have

The affectionate demeanor of the
couple througheut their stay here has
given rise to the report that they are

storm last night and was badly dam

It was not known just when th«

early this morning.
While it Is not believed that tho

The chimney will likely be used for
while longer during the test work
which is now going on nt the new
shops.
The chimney is said to be the high
